2005 Midwest Top Prospect Showcase
Joe Allison is a loose and projectable 6-3, 165 lb senior right handed pitcher from Colorado. He has a thin body that hasn't started getting strong yet. Allison throws from a high 3/4's release point with an exaggerated follow through that slings his back leg high in the air. His arm is smooth and loose all the way through its arc. Allison's fastball was very steady at 84-85 mph both from the wind up and stretch and he had good cutting action on it frequently. It would be hard to imagine his not throwing harder in the future with some strength gains. Allison's 71-72 mph curveball was a quility secondary pitch with good spin and hard downer break. He also threw a 75 mph change up. Allison showed that he had some pitching knowledge and was able to mix up his speeds and locations effectively. This is a good young pitcher who should keep getting better. Allison is also a very good student.
