Evan Smith is a 2007 C/RHP with a 6'0'', 165 lb. frame from San Diego, CA, who attends Francis Parker HS. Smith has a lean and taller frame. Defensively he has arm strength from behind the plate with good receiving skills, and he moves well side to side. At the plate he is a right handed hitter who hits from an open and spread stance. Smith cocks his bat towards the pitcher in a high hand set. He gets his hands in position though and is short to the ball with good bat speed. Smith gets a good weight shift and takes an aggressive swing. The ball jumps off his bat, especially to the pull side. On the mound he throws from a /34 arm slot with good arm speed and clean arm action. Smith throws with minimal effort and stays inline and balanced. He throws strikes with all three pitches and has good tempo on the mound. His fastball topped out at 85 mph and he keeps the pitch down in the zone. Also mixes in a 71 mph curveball with 11 to 5 break and a 76 mph changeup with sinking action. Smith pitches off his curveball and gets good depth on the pitch. His curveball is a strikeout pitch. He did not allow a hit in his 2 IP while striking out 2. He is also a very good student,
