LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2006 National Showcase
Stephen Hagen is a 2007 right hand hitting 3rd baseman from Peninsula HS, residing in Lake Bay, WA. He has a strong, physical, yet athletic build on his 6'1" 200 lb. frame... a plus body. Hagen did not have the results that he is capable of at PG National but his tools earned him a #77 ranking among PG National Top 100 position players. PG scouts have seen him swing the bat (wood) quite well in other events in the last year. He stands in the box with an open stance and moves to being square at contact. His set-up to the ball looks comfortable and puts him in good position to approach each at-bat. During the BP session Hagen showed that his hands work well, firing to the ball and showing above average bat speed. There is clearly some power in his stroke, both from his bat speed and swing plane, as well as his physical strength. Hagen works to get behind the ball and when on time, his hands got through contact very well, giving him power to all fields. He was taking some big swings, resulting in a quite a few swing and misses. In time he should understand that he walks into the box with power and doesn't need to swing real hard to access it. In the field Hagen showed a near plus arm and good hands. His actions were smooth and easy. Everything about him smacks of a prototypical 3rd baseman, from the power, to his build, to his defensive prowess. Even his 7.20 60 yard time fits the hot corner. Expect Hagen to be high on the wish list of the top D1 programs in the NW and in the West in general. Also expect him to get a lot of draft consideration this spring if he shows that power that he looks to have.
