Nico Leiva is a 2007 RHP/3B from Royal Palm Beach, Florida, with a 6'0", 160 lb. frame. He is a very competitive pitcher. Leiva has a smooth delivery and throws from a 3/4 arm slot. His arm really works well, and he hides the ball from the hitter well. He knows how to pitch and changes speeds well. He has good control of his pitches and worked the zone well. He only faced 12 hitters during his 4 innings of work, and he struck out 6 of the 12 hitters while allowing only 1 hit. His fastball topped out at 79 mph, but with his frame and arm action it is easy to project he will be throwing in the mid 80s in the near future. He throws a 67 mph curveball with 11/5 break with solid spin and break. He is also a right handed hitter who hits from a wide stance with no load. He has solid bat speed and hand strength with good balance in his swing. Leiva has a projectable arm and looks to be a good pitching follow.
