Van Clefer is a tall, strong young right hander with an outstanding projectable pitcher’s body. His arm works smoothly but he’s somewhat mechanical in his delivery and tends to fly open early frequently which leaves his pitches up in the strike zone. Van Clefer threw between 85 and 88 mph on his fastball and it’s easy to project that there is much more velocity there, if he becomes more directional and stays behind the ball better. Van Clefer’s curveball was 66-70 mph with good biting action on occasion. He's an interesting kid with a great future. Scouts and college coaches need to see him.
