2006 California Underclass
Damien Chavez is a 2007 OF/1B from Upland HS, residing in Upland, CA, with a 6'2" 185 lb. frame. Chavez was named to the top prospect team at the California Underclass Showcase. He has a physical type build and is strong. At the plate he has a slight upward swing path and some present daypower. Chavez is aggressive with his body to the ball and is raw, but in a good way. He appears to have a raw hitting istinct. His hips work with power and he has some bat speed. The ball exited his bat well and in his swing his hands work. Overall Chavez has a good approach to hitting with the ability to drive the ball to all parts of the yard. Out of the box he goes hard down the line and twice ran below 4.4 home to first. Defensively the ball well out of his hand and he was an accurate thrower. Chavez goes to the ball well and showed solid average defensive abilities. When in the INF he showed the ability to pick balls in the dirt at 1B. He is a strong young player with a chance to hit for some power and looked to be a potential college 5-hole type hitter. Good follow for D1 baseball.
