Jordan Castaldo is a 2007 3B/IF with a 6'1'', 190 lb. frame from Toronto ON, who attends Michael Power CSS. He has a large, mature frame and good present strength, especially in his lower half. Castaldo has very good arm strength at third base. His hands are soft and he is especially good at charging the ball and getting rid of quick, strong throws. His range from side to side is limited. He physically profiles best as a catcher on defense and it would be interesting to learn whether he's played that position. Offensively, Castaldo is a left handed hitter with an inside out hitting approach. His strength gives him some power to the opposite field and he'll pick up some doubles that way. He rarely got the bat started soon enough to pull the ball but was very consistent and steady with his opposite field approach. Castaldo also pitched a bit and showed good arm strength on the mound as well, with a fastball up to 84 mph from a cross body release. His arm works well and he also threw a 67 mph curveball with downer break that showed promise. Castaldo is a very good student.
