Jones turned in one of the best performances of the PG National both on the mound and at the plate. In both roles, Jones uses his exceptionally strong hips and thighs to generate above average power. Although he lists himself as an outfielder first and we’ve seen Jones play primarily outfield at other events, we see Jones’ future on the mound. He has a compact delivery that uses his lower body strength very well and a quick, powerful arm. Jones sat at 91 mph with hard, late boring life on his fastball during 2 innings and spotted the ball low in the zone to both corners with exacting consistency. He also throws a 78 mph slurve that can be tightened up a bit but which he throws for strikes and a 75 mph change up that showed good quality. The most impressive thing about Jones on the mound wasn’t necessarily his power stuff but the precision command he had of it. If he pitched all the time like he did in Lincoln, he would have to be considered as good as any pitcher in the country. At the plate, Jones put on a show in batting practice, showing above average bat speed and raw power in hitting several shots well out of the park. In game situations Jones’ swing got longer. He’s a good enough athlete to play the corner outfield positions well. He doesn't possess that prototype RHP prospect body, but he has the MLB arm. Scouts could get real serious as they see enough of him. For sure he can play at any college in America.
