Smith is a switch hitting sophomore middle infielder from Virginia. He has a compact, live body with some present strength and he is projectable. He ran and threw well in the drills, registering a 7.26 in the 60 and throwing 77 mph from shortstop. Smith shows much more skill right now from the right side of the plate. He has a prounounced knee lift trigger, good coiling action and had some pop in his bat along with some bat quickness. He does tend to step open. From the left side, Smith had a more mechanical swing and hit under more balls. Defensively, Smith has sound fielding fundamentals and a quick, short release. He showed good range and has quick feet. Smith also threw a couple of innings, pitching at 75-77 mph with his fastball, along with a decent 61-65 mph curveball and a knuckleball. He is a very good student.
