2005 South Top Prospect Showcase
Pomykal is a 6-1, 200 lb 2006 first baseman from Texas with a strong, mature body. He has very good agility and speed for his size and ran 7.00 in the 60 and was 4.49 to first base in spite of a full, long swing. He could definitely play left field in addition to playing first base. Pomykal is an aggressive hitter who is up at the plate to swing hard at the ball. He showed the ability to hit the ball deep in the zone with wood and still drive it, which you don't see on high school hitters very often. Pomykal had a 3-3 game at the showcase including a long home run to left field which showed his power and strength. Pitchers who move the ball around and change speeds are going to be able to get Pomykal out unless he guesses right, but throw him a mistake and he's going to jump on it. Pomykal is also a very good student.
