Tyler Schwartinsky is a slender and young looking 6'1/150, 2005 RHP/OF from Robinson, TX. He got our attention right away by throwing 88 mph from the outfield with a smooth, easy arm stroke. He carried his arm strength and arm action onto the mound as well. Schwartinsky threw 83-86 mph with a long, easy arm circle. Maybe more impressively, he had a whole bucketful of secondary pitches that had some real quality to them. He used a 71-72 mph split finger with good tumble as a strike out pitch along with a more standard 73 mph straight change. Schwartinsky’s curveball was 69-71 mph and had some good spin to it on occasion, although it could use some tightening up. We kept waiting for a slider, too, but didn’t see one. Overall, this is a highly projectable young pitcher with some good pitching skills and a good knowledge on how to use them. He could end up being very special. Tyler is a good student.
