Troy Sommo is a 2007 C/P/OF from Venice HS, residing in Los Angeles, CA, with a 6'0" 160 lb. frame. He has an average athletic type build and a medium, somewhat slender frame. On offense Sommo showed good hand speed and a quick trigger. He maintained balance in his swing allowing him to spray the ball around. His swing plane was flat and was in the hitting zone. Overall Sommo has a pretty simple hitting approachm using mainly his upper body. More lower half in his swing would enhance his future power potential, which at this point is minimal. On defense he showed consistent pop times to second base and showed himself to be an accurate, if not a fast thrower. Overall body strength is needed to enhance his skills, but he does possess some ability. On the mound Sommo has a long arm stroke on the backside. He pitched from a 3/4 slot and threw a lot of strikes with both pitches. He worked fast and employed solid mechanics. His arm action and command suggest that pitching may be his most projectable ability, making him a follow for small college programs.
