2003 Midwest Top Prospect Showcase
Yocum is an "05" catcher/outfielder from Iowa. At 6'1/170 he projects nicely. He popped around 2 flat with 72 mph velocity on his throws. He showed good receiving skills. At the plate he has the no stride approach that works better with metal than wood. He just turns and hits without using a lot of leverage or creating bat speed. He does show some excellent hitting ability and it makes you wonder what he would be like with a more aggressive type swing. Nick is an interesting junior with a chance to be very good.
