2004 Midwest Top Prospect Showcase
Matt Firth is a medium framed and physically solid 5'11" right handed pitcher from Canada. A 2005 prospect, Firth showed solid on-line pitching mechanics with a short and compact arm action. His fastball was 79-81 mph, and Firth tried to keep this pitch out of the middle of the strike zone. His go to pitch was a 68-69 mph curveball that had very good depth and 2-plane break. When Firth was able to spot his curveball in and out, he got outs in a hurry, but when he got behind in the count and had to throw fastballs for strikes, he got hit. Firth had good athletic actions and showed very good defensive ability off the mound.
