Jovan Rohena Otero is a 5'9" Puerto Rican middle infielder from the Class of 2006. He has a very tightly wound, muscular body with good present strength throughout. Otero is a switch hitter who takes good advantage of his strength and could develop into a top level hitter. He has a better stroke right now from the right side, with a little more bat speed and better extension out front. Otero’s swing from the left side isn’t bad, just a little bit longer, but the ball jumps from both sides of the plate. Otero is power conscious and tends to fly open trying to pull and loft the ball. Defensively, Otero has good, balanced foot work and some lower body quickness. He’ll need to work on softening up his hands a bit, but his transfer and release looked good. He looks like he runs much better than his 60 time would dictate.
