Paulene is a young and very slender freshman pitcher from Alabama who has some arm strength for a young pitcher. He threw 3 innings in Fort Myers, showing a 77-80 mph fastball from a high ¾’s release point. Paulene’s mechanics are pretty good for a freshman; he opens up a bit early and has some effort in his release but overall he’s sound. Paulene’s curveball was around 68 mph and he tended to get on the side of this pitch, creating a sweeping break. His 65-68 mph change up had some sinking action. He’s a good young pitcher to follow for strength and velocity gains.
