2007 Holiday Open Showcase
Philip Cruz is a 2007 MIF/3B that attends Cypress Bay HS and resides in Pembroke Pines, FL with a 5'8", 140 lb. frame. Philip has a lean athletic build with room to fill out and showed solid infield tools at the showcase. At the plate Philip has a line-drive swing plane and goes to the opposite field well. Philip will get a little long with his swing and needs to work on shortening up some. Once Philip adds a little more strength he should see a lot of improvement at the plate. In the field Philip shows solid second base tools. He has nice hands with good footwork and will make all of the routine plays. Philip has a good backhand and was able to keep his balance well, but he probably lacks the arm strength to play a different infield position at this point. Philip is a player that could attract the attention of some smaller college programs.
