Ducks taste like turkey? Actually better, once you get past the extra grease content.

Kendall, shouldn't there be SOMEBODY, if not you, who can ban these spammers? The fact that these guys posted their garbage a month or more ago and it's still here is embarrassing.

Really? OSU fourth in the Pac-12 behind UCLA, Stanford, and Oregon this year? No way. Despite the absence of Jace Fry, the Beavers have so much talent returning, especially seniors, that they will be tops in the conference. You heard it here first. Beware the Beavers!

...assign someone else to moderate it. One of the reasons I jumped off the Rivals board when you left was that there was nobody to delete the Nike shoe spam and ban the spammers. Nearly every thread on this board has the same jackazz spamming the same cr@p, and nobody deletes it.

If Eric Sorenson's preseason top two make it to the final series, we will have a rematch of 2006 and 2007.

Unfortunately, he lists Jace as one of the Beavers' "embarrassment of riches", so take alter the prediction accordingly. Still, nice to see OSU getting some preseason praise.

Pac-12 preview from Eric Sorenson. Oregon State picked to finish #1. Still mentions Jace Fry as "returning" despite the surgery.

Stitchhead's prediction:

HOW THEY’LL FINISH IN 2013:

1- Oregon State
2- UCLA
3- Stanford
4- Oregon
5- Arizona
6- Arizona State
7- Washington State
8- California
9- Washington
10- USC
11- Utah

2013 Pac-12 Baseball Preseason Coaches Poll

1. Stanford (5) 93
2. UCLA (2) 90
3. Oregon State (3) 87
4. Oregon 73
5. Arizona 65
6. Arizona State 58
7. California 40
8T. USC 32
8T. Washington State 32
10. Washington 28
11. Utah 12

I'm already on record saying Oregon State's gonna claim the conference crown this year, but what do you think? I agree Stanford will be tough...probably a really close second. But I don't know about UCLA. The one thing I will say that stacks up against the Beavers is the schedule: Of those other five teams at the top, they only face Arizona State at home this year.

I also think Wazzu and UW will do better than this projection. I know SOMEBODY has to keep Utah company, and the 7 through 10 teams will be decent overall regardless of their conference records, but I'm thinking Cal and USC will be lower.

Orange & Black Beavers...finally get a win?

Dodger Matt
Dodger Matt
Just saw this over at the Rivals board and thought folks here might enjoy the link.

It appears that Caltech in Pasadena, a D3 school known primarily for rocket science and high-tech geekery, also has a few athletic teams, but none is very good. They are known as the Beavers (think dam-building engineers) and wear orange and black, like Pacific Northwest Beavers do. But that's whre the similarity ends. Whereas Oregon State has become a national power in D1 baseball over the last ten years, Caltech just recently won their first baseball game in 229 tries. Their last win was February 15, 2003. (Of course, in their next game, they lost to Oregon Tech Owls 22-3, so here comes the next string of losses for the Beavers.)

Caltech's men's basketball team ended a 310-game conference losing streak in 2011, so the baseball squad was not alone in athletic futility. Still, ya gotta hand it to the kids playing there. They are obviously playing for love of the game, as their real interest is in academics. Go Beavers!

The complete opposite? So you think Utah will finish in first? Heheh.

I don't think OSU's OOC schedule is all that tough (comparable to UO's, however, as they play a lot of the same OOC teams as Oregon), so bonus points for the Ducks on that score. But the Beavers have a tougher conference schedule. Oregon's schedule against the top six in the conference? The exact opposite of OSU's: Only ASU on the road.

I just love this guy. I am so glad he decided to stick around for his senior year. (I never doubted that he would.) I love his attitude, his love of life and of the game, his humor, his passion for all things Beaver Nation. I hope they continue to do these videos. It shows what fun it is in the Beaver locker room.

Thank you, Matt!

The Pac Title

Difficult question, really. If you look at last year, the top six teams (which will probably be the same top six teams this year, just not in the same order) finished with 18 to 20 wins. So the question is, Will there be a clear-cut winner who will get more than 20 wins this year, or will there be more teams in the bottom half that will provide more wins for the upper teams?

My answer to both questions is, No. The bottom five teams will be tough to beat wins out of. The upper teams do not have an overwhelming favorite. You will see the same kind of distribution in the wins column among 1 through 6. The top team will win 20 games. MAYBE 21. (If it's 21, it won't be OSU.)

As much as I love Boyd and the ISRs, this makes me wonder. The top straight nine come in the same conference? Not impossible, but it strains the limits of credulity. Some explanation would be welcome.

So Wazzu is at 24 and Arizona (slackers) are number 49. What a bunch of pantywaists.

I've wondered the same thing. When he burst on the scene as a freshman, he was equally good with the bat as with the pill. But I can understand specializing as a pitcher, if that's what they thought he was best at. But they haven't used him as much as I have wanted. Not as a pitcher nor as a pinch hitter. I want to reward guys with the attitude he has. Give him th pill. Put him in as a pinch hitter occasionally. That would have to give opposing pitchers a raised eyebrow here and there tp see OSU's closer or late relief guy batting in a "must get a base hit" situation late in a game.

Well, his ERA is something like 99.99, which kinda sucks. But on the bright side, check out that OBA: .000!

A great comment from Sorenson, one I agree with:

"There should be an NCAA bylaw that Rice and Stanford play EVERY year."

I would love the Beavers to play an annual preseason series with a regular power from another conference. How about Oregon State versus LSU every March? We had those home-and-home series with Georgia a few years back. What top-tier team would you Beaver fans like to see in Corvallis every other year?
