Cocks win it in the bottom of the 12th, 5-4. Now THAT was a good college baseball game.

OMG. St. John was down 4-2 and beat UNC with a three-run homer in the bottom of the 9th, 5-4. They were ahead of the Tar Heels for much of the game. But that was an great walkoff upset victory.

Not sure why they were the home team....

Nick Vander Tuig had a no-hitter going against New Mexico until the 8th inning, and UCLA outhit the Lobos 17-2.

Arizona is so impressive. If UNC manages to come back from the loser's bracket and win their own national seed regional, they will be embarrassed at home by the Wildcats on UA's route to Omaha.

DM, would you mind telling me and giving some stats on who ULM will be throwing tomorrow...Beavers are not going to win this game...Gausman won't be touched. Only chance I see is coming back and picking up 2 against pitchers a little lower on LSU's depth chart.

Tried. ULM's website has only blank pages for their 2012 stats. From what I could tell, they threw their ace against LSU on Friday and both their 2 and 3 about four innings each today in the win over Belmont. What kind of pitching they have left after that is probably not going to be very good or last very long. I'm thinking Wetzler goes nearly a full game against them and gets the win. Then Taylor Starr, on a short leash, gets the start against LSU in the nightcap. Scott Schultz will come in with the slightest sign of trouble from Starr.

Final Four

The top four national seeds are the last four standing, and they'll play one or two tomorrow to decide who makes the championship series.

On the upper bracket, #3 Arizona State has to beat #4 Oklahoma twice to advance to the championship series.
On the lower bracket, #1 California has to beat #2 Alabama twice to advance to the championship series.

Odds are stacked against the Pac-12 teams, but anything can happen in softball. However, this could be a rare year when a Pac-12 team does not win it all. (The Pac owns 24 of the 30 titles, including the last six. Of the six titles the Pac did not win, a Pac-12 team was the runner-up in four of those games. Pac-12 teams were also on the losing side of the championship 12 times that another Pac-12 team was on the winning side. )

I wish Parker would stop pronouncing it "Eleck" Box. I don't care if the LSU announcer or the fans there pronounce Alex "Eleck". They probably mispronounce a ton of regular English words.

If the LSU announcer told Parker, "We pronounce it Eleck Bowk Stayjum," would Parker be saying stayjum instead of stadium?

Yeah, surprising collapse by the Titans. And Austin Peay has played very well. They should be playing Oregon tonight from the winner's bracket, but they could still upend the Ducks.

ASU and Cal lose, so this will be only the third time ever that the championship game/series does not have a Pac-12 team competing. The other two times:

1986 *Cal State Fullerton (57-9-1) beat Texas A&M
1983 Texas A&M (41-11) beat Cal State Fullerton

Oklahoma takes on Alabama in a best of three series tomorrow.

Fresno State was up on Pepperdine 5-2 going into thee 9th, but the Waves have scored 6 in the 9th, including a grand slam, and still have no outs. 8-5 Pepperdine.

Terrible start from Starr. Gone after one out and three runs. Big hill to climb now.

Not a surprise, but South Carolina is the first to win a regional, defeating Clemson 4-3.

St. John leads UNC 5-4 in the bottom of the 6th. The Heels have to win tonight and tomorrow to survive their own regional.

FB, I'll ditto that thought about Starr. Except for one game against Oregon, he has gotten beat up every game he has pitched. I know there is a good story with his three surgeries and his comeback, but I'm not sure he has the stuff he had several years ago.

What's up with Matt Boyd? Two years ago, he was the Beavers best player. He played the field, pitched, and hit well. Now, he is no where to be found.

No, no. Starr started against the Ducks three times and beat them convincingly twice, only faltering in game two at PK Park. He was off for some reason tonight, but if we survive, I would bet we see him again tomorrow. Not sure about a start, but he will see some time on the bump.

I'll second the wonderment about Boyd though. He was an awesome two-way player as a freshman. I know he expressed some interest in being a starting pitcher this year, but that hasn't happened and he hasn't been used as much as I would have wanted in relief either.

Borg, come on. It's 3-2 now and it's only the third inning. Stop acting like a Duck fan. Sheesh.

St. John and Stony Brook, the two Northern cinderellas of this postseason, are leading in their respective games tonight. The johnnies will advance with an upset regional victory over #6 seed UNC if they hold on, leading 7-4 in the b7th.

Stony Brook up 7-2 on UCF in the t6th. They'll have to face UCF again tomorrow if they hold on to win tonight.

Schultzie once again is doing a great job in long relief. And the LSU crowd is very quiet. I think those two facts are related. I just want the crowd to remain quiet for the rest of the game.

"Strike three taken! He retrieved his bat for no good purpose!" Love Parker's wry wit.
