Ryan Barnes needs to hit the weight room. Two long fly balls to leftfield that could have jumped the fence with a little more muscle behind them end up being long fly outs.

But then, Brian stamps just picked him up with his own solo shot....

More upsets...
  • Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets lose their own regional to Miss State, not even forcing a final winner-take-all game.
  • CS Fullerton loses its regional to Big Ten's Illinois, thus virtually ensuring another Pac-10 advance, with Stanford.

Anteaters score 2 in the bottom of the 9th to come from behind and beat UCLA 4-3.
UCLA is out.
OSU advances.

Sorry about UCLA. Bummer for the Pac. Hopefully we don't lose any more along the way to the Supers.

Fullerton getting beat is a great consolation though. heh heh
Personally--and I think I would speak for you as well, Unknown--I would rather see CSF and UCLA advance.

UGA is out now. Pity though... Although I am a Beaver first and a Tiger(/War Eagle) second, I will always hold a soft spot for UGA. I was [disappointed] they had to play us so only one could advance.

SB, this requires explanation for those Pac-10/OSU fans who don't know WTF you are talking about.

"a Tiger(/War Eagle)"? How do the Georgia (Bulldogs, not Tigers or War Eagles) fit into that equation? Honestly, I don't even know what a War Eagle is....

Reports are the Beavers may be hosting Vandy. Nashville has some huge music festival next weekend and all the hotels are sold out. So the SR may be switching to Corvallis. I'm okay with that.

No way! Seriously? That's [politically incorrect term for mentally challenged]! What city, given the choice between baseball and country music, would choose the latter?

Pac-10 is again 6-0 in game 3s, 2-1 in game 4s. Three advance, two are still in play for an upset, one is eliminated:
  • Arizona LWWW: Must beat Texas A&M again to advance to play at Florida State.
  • Arizona State WWW: Advances to play the Kent state/Texas victor (site TBD).
  • California LWWW: Must beat Baylor one more time to advance (and play the Dallas Baptist/Oral Roberts winner, site TBD)
  • Oregon State WWW: Advances to play at Vanderbilt.
  • Stanford WWW : Advances to play at North Carolina.
  • UCLA LWWL: Eliminated.
BTW, I just realized I know who the postseason prediction winner is already, because these scores are already set--even though two of the outcomes are not. But I'll post scores tomorrow....

quick question DM. are we gonna do predictions for the SR if both cal and/or ariz advance? that WOULD give us 5 series to predict should they both win today
With that many teams, it's probably doable. I'd have to create a slightly different rubric, but there would still be four possible outcomes.

Okay, look for one tomorrow.

Texas takes two in a row from Kent State to avoid being the third Texas #1 seed to be upset at home. Still have to see what aTm does.

One that really surprised me was Connecticut taking two straight from Clemson, 7-6 yesterday and 14-1 today. OMG

Sorry, a little detour from college baseball. I'm multitasking and occasionally flipping on the Women's College World Series championship between Arizona State and Florida. Starting to feeling sorry for those Gatorettes; they are getting ripped, 14-0 in game one.

Esquer leaves Erik Johnson in probably three batters too long. He walked three straight to lead off the 4th, then gave up back-to-back doubles to turn a 1-0 lead into a 4-1 deficit. I don't now how you can leave a guy in after walking two to start an inning in such a crucial game. But three? Then let him give up two deep doubles? Looking tough for the Golden Bears (as opposed to the Baylor Bears) to win now.

Regardless of the outcome of the Cal and Arizona Game Fives, both of those teams have pushed to the 3+ status, so we can list the scores....

Results:
  • Ariz 3+
  • ASU 3-0
  • Cal 3+
  • OSU 3-0
  • Stan 3-0
  • UCLA 2-2
Scores:
  • 27 Dodger Matt
  • 21 ConnorOSU1
  • 20 Florida Beaver
  • 19 opihi man
  • 18 BeaverBob
  • 18 borgguy
  • 18 SouthernBeaver
  • 14 MostUnknown
  • 14 rec1347
  • 13 ASU74
  • 13 BeaverBeliever20
  • 12 RiverDuck
Score analysis:
  • DM got four of six regionals right, only missing Stanford and UCLA.
  • Three people got two regionals right.
  • Three people got none right.
  • Top regional was a tie: Four people correctly picked OSU and ASU to sweep 3-0, for an average score of 3.92.
  • Three people correctly picked Arizona to go 3+, with an average score for this regional on only 2.65.
  • Two correctly picked UCLA to go 2-2 (although I think at least one of them was expecting Fresno State to end the Bruins' season). Average score was 2.58.
  • Only one picked Stanford to sweep 3-0, for an average score of 2.75.
  • Only one picked Cal to go 3+ for a regional average score low of 1.75.
Conference analysis:
  • Four Pac-10 teams have advanced, and one more (Arizona) still has a chance tomorrow.
  • Four SEC teams and three ACC teams have advanced.
  • With one game left to play, the Pac-10 has a record of 18-4 (.818), the highest of all conferences.
  • If Arizona loses, the Pac-10 will still have the best record in regional play (18-5, .783), with Independents (Dallas Baptist) second with a record of 3-1 (.750), and the SEC third with a 17-6 record (.739).
Updated with the Cal/Baylor game in the books.

Kendall (or anyone), my company does not allow gametracker through the firewall, so I am unable to see anything about this game's status except the score and the inning. Any chance someone could provide some basic info? RHE? Who's pitching? Overall impression of what each team is doing?

TIA

Pac-10: SUPER REGIONAL PREDICTIONS

Dodger Matt
Dodger Matt
First time I've tried doing supers, so I'm not promising a good even spread in the results. I've upped the scores a bit, especially on the winning end, to provide a possible range similar (albeit a little lower) to our regular season prediction scores.

There are four possibilities for each super regional:
  • 0-2: The team loses the first two games and is done.
  • 1-2: The team wins one of the first two then loses the third game and is done.
  • 2-1: The team wins one of the first two games then wins the third and goes to Omaha.
  • 2-0: The team wins the first two games and goes to Omaha.
Here's how the scoring goes. Your pick is along the top; actual result is on the side:

You pick: 0-2 1-2 2-1 2-0
0-2 6 4 2 0
1-2 4 6 3 1
2-1 1 3 6 5
2-0 0 1 4 7
Note that a team that goes 2-0 will give you the most points if you pick them to go 2-0 and almost as much if you pick them to go 2-1. This kind of encourages optimism, but it also provides some separation. If this is not enough to provide a clear winner, for a tiebreaker, how about this:

TIEBREAKER: Guess the total amount of runs scored by all teams in Game One of each super. Must be at least 4 and as high as...40? 80?

Lastly, instead of providing a series by series analysis, which I frankly don't have time for right now, I would like to open that up to the first four who want to provide them. Pick one series and give us an overview of each team’s strengths and weaknesses, who their projected three starters are, ERAs, whatever. And let someone else do the next series review.

Here are the supers:
  • ASU at Texas
  • Dallas Baptist at Cal
  • OSU at Vanderbilt
  • Stan at North Carolina
Let's wait for the series previews before you start voting, but for those who only read this long message once, here's what a sample ballot would look like. (PLEASE, remember to keep them IN ORDER and USE THE ABBREVIATIONS!)

ASU 0-2
Cal 1-2
OSU 2-1
Stan 2-0
Tiebreaker: 23

Yes but Vandy starts Sonny Gray in game 1 and Grayson Garvin in game 2. Hard to find 2 better pitchers in a rotation than that. Plus, with Esposito and Westlake, not to mention Gomez, Reynolds, etc. they have a great lineup as well. I do like Sam throwing on friday against many teams but Sonny and Vandy is a tough draw. Good luck to the Beavers! Also I must add that I think Oregon State has the best uniforms in college baseball! They are just plain awesome!

We'll probably be wearing our grays at least one of those days, so it should be a gray series. My favorites are the home cream-colored unis with the black lettering. I'm not a big fan of the "trucker" two-toned hats. Give me straight black cap with the orange OS logo anyday.
