Horizon HS v. Desert Ridge HS. Both are defending state champions in their respective divisions. Horizon's Nick Valenza LHP will face off vs. DR's Scot Hoffman RHP in a battle of two of the state's hardest throwers. Both have touched 93 in the past. |

Horizon/Desert Ridge was a one sided affair as Horizon defeated a graduation depleted Ridge team 7-2. Nick Valenza LHP started the game off in the 90-91 range, but a bit wild. He got out of a jam early and cruised from there. Scot Hoffman was the victim of a few errors, which led to unearned runs. A good twenty scouts were on hand for this one. Valenza was a nice surprise today and had some scouts chirping a bit. |

I saw Florida last weekend and everyone was throwing gas. Whitson (95), Gibson (94), Johnson (92), Desclafani (92), Crawford (92), Pantielodis (91). Im sure Maddox and the others were 90+ as well....just flat out scary to me. |

watched Horizon (AZ) v. Mountain Pointe (AZ) this past weekend. Kevin Cron and Jordan Dunatov attracted close to 30 scouts. Dunatov's pregame throws from center were impressive and a great show. 94 on one scout's gun. Cron hit a ball about 425ft in the game. Dunatov had a 3B off the wall. Fun game to watch with nice prospects. |

Horizon and Chaparral met in the 5A-II semis, where Horizon had to beat Chap twice. Chap took down Horizon earlier in the tournament 12-11 in 9 Innings. Horizon beat Chaparral in the first game on Thursday 5/12 to force a game 2. haparral came back in the 6th inning and beat Horizon 8-6. Probably the best 3 games I have seen in high school in terms of excitement on both sides. Big time rivals going at it. Chaparral finally got to Nik Valenza of Horizon who was throwing 92-93 in the 6th, but Chap was ready for it and got a few base hits off him. Chaparral faces underdog Perry High in the Finals. |

Very surprised on the inaccuracy of a number of az players on the draft preview page. Not sure where PG gets their info. I hope PG becomes more accurate as you move forward with more reliable scouting. |

Players left off PG list and notes.
Scott Squier- 6'5 185 LHP. 88-94 this spring. Nik Valenza- 5'10 180 LHP 90-93 I wont call out names on the list, but a few are just not accurate. Not fair to kid to rebut in this forum. |

Are East Coast showcases/tournaments the only ones with blogging and live reports? Little disappointing. |
