Any new info to report on who UCR is hiring to replace Cornejo and work with the position players?

Good job digging that up. With Savage going for another school's HC, that's why it took a while.

Is associate HC Vaughn the likely candidate to take over for Peters?

Tampa is going to be signing 5th round pick J.D. Davis soon, according to a report in the Tampa paper last weekend. Davis is committed to Fullerton.

Thanks. Makes sense for either of them. One just had his boss take an assistant coaching position and the other one wants to start getting a salary to coach.

All SR's who transfer while their former program is on probation and banned from the post-season are immediately eligible at their new school. That has been the case with football players transferring out of USC (about eight or so left before the 2010 season). As long as ASU's appeal is denied and they are not eligible for the 2012 post-season, Ottoson should be immediately eligible at Ok State. IIRC, JR's are also immediately eligible because several of the USC football players were JR's last year.

Gillespie figured there would be more guys leaving. They had four SR's and ten JR's last year. Only one of the JR's was drafted and signed (Fri SP Summers). There are approx 10-12 guys in the incoming class after losing one to the draft (Alexander - 8th round). Irvine had to either have guys not come to school and/or have guys leave to get down to 35.

Kendall already mentioned Leyland's situation. Basically, he wanted to play 1B. Leyland is below average defensively. The coaches wanted him to DH and keep Fox at 1B.

C - Sandler was a redshirt FR last year. He didn't want to sit behind Schaeffer another year.

IF - Zaks and Walker redshirted last year as true FR. They weren't going to get much playing time behind Fox, Reyes/Moyer, Crumlich and incoming FR Sparks.

OF - Bily was a redshirt FR last year and Alexander redshirted as a true FR. Interesting that these guys are leaving with the corner OF spots wide open and only Ramirez in CF having a starting spot locked down. The only other OF returning on the roster is Gottschling. Fox can play out there but his arm is below avg.

LHP - Abbott and Clough redshirted last year as true FR. They didn't figure to get many innings behind the four LHP's ahead of them.

There are a couple of more FR that barely played (a couple of IP or a couple of AB's, those types) and it wouldn't surprise me if some of them moved on. The names above have been mentioned quite a bit for the last few weeks with people I've talked to as definitely moving on.

CS Bakersfield to the WAC? (9.12)

The Big West has shown ZERO interest in adding Bakersfield. They were denied last December when the conference added Hawaii as the tenth member and there isn't any interest in adding somebody else. Long term, the conf would probably like to add UCSD several years down the road when they are ready and the 12th team would probably be San Jose State, if they drop down from FBS to FCS football, or Sac State.

Dallas Baptist will also be going to the WAC for baseball, according to this article in the Bakersfield paper.

Roadrunners await offer to join WAC BY JEFF EVANS Californian staff writer
jevans@bakersfield.com | Saturday, Sep 10 2011 03:49 PM Last Updated Saturday, Sep 10 2011 05:24 PM
The Western Athletic Conference may have said "no" to CSU Bakersfield's entire athletic program in June, but now the WAC may be ready to say "yes" to CSUB baseball.
According to a Thursday twitter feed by Eric Sorenson from College Baseball Weekly, the WAC is expected to offer baseball-only memberships to CSUB and Dallas Baptist, effective in the 2013 season.
A source close to the situation said the WAC offer could come sometime this week.
Corey Costelloe, a spokesman for the CSUB athletic department, said no one at CSUB can comment specifically on the report.
But in a statement Saturday, CSUB athletic director Jeff Konya said:
"As I've said many times, we will puruse conference affiliations, even affiliate memberships, as they make sense for our program and present the best opportunities for our student-athletes to compete for postseason championships."
Nothing official has come from the WAC.
"We're waiting," Costelloe said Saturday. "That's where we're at."
If the offer is made and accepted, CSUB and Dallas Baptist would become "associate members" of the WAC in baseball, joining the lone baseball associate member Sacramento State.
Sacramento State is a member of the Big Sky Conference, which does not offer baseball.
CSUB is a Division I independent, although men's soccer, men's and women's swimming, water polo, softball and wrestling are members of their own sport-specific conferences.
On June 14, chancellors and presidents of WAC schools rejected CSUB's bid to join that conference in all sports.
WAC Commissioner Karl Benson said CSUB needed to improve its on-the-field success in various sports and improve many of its athletic facilities before the WAC would consider the Roadrunners for full membership.
But the WAC has been faced with the challenge of replacing programs that have left or announced they are leaving that conference.
Boise State left the WAC for the Mountain West Conference prior to this season, and longtime WAC members Nevada and Fresno State will join the MWC next fall. Hawaii has announced it's leaving the WAC and will join the Big West Conference in all sports except football.
The WAC responded to the loss of those members by adding Denver, Seattle, Texas State, Texas-San Antonio and Texas-Arlington.
Other WAC members are Idaho, Louisiana Tech, New Mexico State, San Jose State, and Utah State.
Utah State, Idaho and Denver do not have baseball programs,
CSUB's baseball program will begin its fourth season in 2012. The Roadrunners went 33-22 last season and narrowly missed out on a berth into the 64-team NCAA Tournament.
CSUB's ratings percentage index at the end of the season was 52. The RPI is used by the NCAA to determine postseason qualifiers and relies on won-lost record, strength of schedule and opponents' strength of schedule.
Dallas Baptist went 42-20 last season and qualified for the NCAA Tournament, The Patriots won the Fort Worth Regional and reached the Super Regional before losing twice to Cal, ending their season.

CS Bakersfield to the WAC? (9.12)

This was posted on CB Daily's website earlier today.

"College Baseball Daily has learned through independent sources that Dallas Baptist and Cal-State Bakersfield will be added to the WAC as associate members for baseball only. Our sources also state that the conference will be moving the 2012 or 2013 conference tournament to the state of Texas, most likely to the DFW/Arlington area".

Questions that come to mind are:
1) Is their independent source the Bakersfield paper article from last Sat?
2) Is their independent source Eric Sorensons's Twitter post from last Thurs on this?
3) Maybe they should fact check re: 2012 and the WAC tournament since that one is all set and there won't be any TX schools in the WAC in 2012?

BF claimed they had been sitting on this for weeks.

Round 11 & beyond ?

It's not really a penalty for going over 100K after the 10th round because teams can still do that if they want to but any part of the bonus over 100K will count towards the overall amount of money a team can spend. What the limits are going to do is keep teams from throwing 500K bonuses around at guys drafted in the teens except for isolated instances. Teams can still do that if they want to but the number of guys getting big money deals after the 10th round will go down significantly because of the penalties for going above the amount of money that a team is allocated to spend.
