Hay Guys....less then 50 days to go....was considering coming up to Beaver Land to see ASU, but geeezz a 7 hour flight from Houston.....I'd be working on my 2nd hang over even before I started the drive from Portland.

Rice opens their season against Stanford down here so the chance to get to see Appel who will be a 1st rounder if not the #1 pick is too good and convenient to pass up.

Will also get to see Cal at Rice. Last time I saw them here, they defeated Baylor in the SR & took off to the CWS.

The Razorbacks will be at ASU for the Coke Classic...they will play them twice. I got a 6 pack of St Pauli Girl wager with my Razorback friend. Only a sweep will win. I'll be there for that!

I was hunting a week ago & I swear I saw RD flying over.....I missed & he got away, but some of his brothern ended up on the dinner table.Gun

You all have a Happy & safe New Year.Applause

I just posted this for those who may be interested....reality is where you are ranked on June 26, 2013.

I went to the Minute Maid Classic last year cuz my Razorback friend was here.....they sure had a great following.

This year I'll pass...Cal wil play at Rice on Monday then the next two days Penn State plays at Houston. My cousin went to Penn State...sent me a T shirt so I gotta go & pull for his guys. I don't know if my butt will put up with 7 straight days in the stands.

THX for the heads up un the tickets for Stanford at Rice. I'll get them early.

Come on ASU 74. I have the perfect elixer for a hangover. If you change your mind, let me know. I'll have a ticket waiting for you. I'm sure us Beaver regulars, even good ole River Duck would love to see you in our Beaver State.

BB
I know what your "elixer" is.....the way to cure a hangover is to stay drunk!Toast

I truely appreciate your offer & I'd like to see you guys also. I did double check the flight schedule & the last flight out of Portland on Sunday is 3:00 pm. The Sunday game starts @ 12:05....long way to go for 2 games.

How's about next year we all meet half way & meet in Tempe for the series? I'll buy the 1st round. beer
I'm pretty sure it will not rain nor snow during the game!

Austin Kubitza vs. Appel should be another instant classic with two likely first rounders facing each other in the season opener. Suggest getting your tickets early as Rice-Stanford averaged just under 4,000 attendance for the season-opening series at Reckling 2 years ago. If your down in Houston, I'd also suggest the Minute Maid Classic the 3rd weekend of the season with Rice, UNC, A&M, Baylor and Cal all participating (along with Houston).

FYI
Single game tickets will go on sale 2/1/13

Flying down to Houston on Thursday (from frigid Chicago-- it's 2 degrees above today with windchills in the negative 30s), and will be in my usual seats in the 2nd row behind the home plate screen for the Rice - Stanford series. I'll be on the 3rd base side behind the dugout pulling for the Pac & looking like...........a Sun Devil. FYI it will be in the mid 70's here today. During the Regional last year we were able to get a beer at the Owl's nest. Thirsty?

USC Baseball Head Coach Suspended Pending Investigation of NCAA CARA Issues

Feb. 7, 2013 LOS ANGELES --USC baseball head coach Frank Cruz has been suspended from his coaching duties pending an investigation by the University to determine whether excessive NCAA Countable Athletically-Related Activities occurred within his program. NCAA bylaws restrict the number of hours student-athletes can spend in activities directed by or supervised by the coaching staff.

"We take any potential NCAA infraction seriously," said USC Athletic Director Pat Haden. "USC Vice President for Athletic Compliance Dave Roberts and his staff will investigate whether the baseball program exceeded the allowable CARA hours, and will do so diligently and expeditiously. Pending the results of the investigation, we have suspended Coach Cruz from all coaching duties."

Associate head coach Dan Hubbs will serve as interim head coach in place of Cruz, who is entering his third season guiding the Trojans.

USC begins its 2013 season with an alumni game this Sunday (Feb. 10) at Dedeaux Field before playing at Cal State Fullerton next Friday (Feb. 15).

Cal To Install Lights, New Scoreboard At Evans Diamond

Posted Feb. 7, 2013 7:08 pm by Aaron Fitt
Filed under: Around The Nation

Just two years ago, California's baseball program was preparing to head into its final Division I season, unless a frantic fundraising effort succeeded in saving it from the chopping block.

Not only did supporters save the program, but the future of Cal baseball now looks brighter than ever. The school announced Thursday that Evans Diamond, which has served as Cal's home field on campus since 1933, will receive a $2.25 million upgrade this spring, with the installation of a new sports lighting system and scoreboard.

Heading into the 2013 season, Cal is the only Pac-12 school without permanent lighting at its baseball field. When the Golden Bears found themselves in position to host a super regional in 2011, they had to scramble to find an adequate venue, eventually hosting Dallas Baptist at Santa Clara's stadium. The recent launch of the Pac-12 Networks made it imperative for Cal to install lighting, in order to maximize its opportunity to appear on television. The lights are scheduled to be ready in time for Cal's Pac-12 home opener on March 28 against Southern California.

"These facility improvements will mean so much to our baseball family and community," Cal coach David Esquer said in a release. "We look forward to night baseball at Evans Diamond giving more families a chance to experience Cal baseball. The persistence and will of our foundation, led by Stu Gordon, have made this possible, along with the cooperation of the campus and athletic department. We couldn't be more thankful."

The 38-foot-by-31-foot scoreboard will feature a full color video board and will be installed in left-center field. The entire project is scheduled for completion by June 2013. It will be funded by a combination of donations and increased ticket and sponsorship revenue as a result of the upgrade.

Gordon, a former Cal pitcher who was instrumental in the effort to preserve the program, helped spearhead this project as chairman of the Cal Baseball Foundation.

"This will be a dream come true and is almost unbelievable after well over 100 years that at long last we will be getting lights and a new video scoreboard at Evans Diamond," Gordon said in the release. "We have tried hard for years to make this dream a reality and now it is about to happen so that our first Pac-12 game this year against USC will be played under the lights. I can't tell you how excited I am on the prospect of having this finally become a reality."
