The meatiest of the games will be played in the Beaver State this weekend, with three of the top four teams (using ISR rankings) playing in Corvallis and Eugene. And Perfect Game’s own Kendall Rogers will be visiting both ballparks. Pray for good weather!

This week’s games
  • #21 ASU (12-5) at #2 OSU (19-1)
  • #42 Cal (13-7) at #19 UCLA (15-3)
  • #96 Ariz (15-8) at #27 Ore (15-6)
  • #144 USC (8-12) at #180 UW (4-14)
  • #178 Utah (8-9) at #46 Stan (10-5)
  • #209 XB (Brown) (1-6) at #44 WSU (11-7) (First three games only))
An example ballot would look like this:
  • OSU 2-1
  • Cal 2-1
  • Ariz 2-1
  • USC 3-0
  • Stan 2-1
  • XB 3-0
Week 6 Series
  • After sweeping defending national champion Wildcats in Tucson last week, Oregon State hosts Arizona State, in a matchup of top 25 teams. The Sun Devils lost their home opening conference series to Wazzu, 1 game to two, but they are still a talented and dangerous team. The Beavers, however, are getting great numbers throughout the lineup and on the mound. Friday’s matchup between SR LHP Matt Boyd and ASU’s JR RHP Trevor Williams should be a good one, as the two have accounted for three of the five pitcher of the week honors so far this year. Williams had a rough outing in his last start, getting tagged by the Cougs for 7 earned runs in 7 innings, but his ERA was under 2.00 before that.

  • There’s an ursine civil war in the Bear Republic between the two UC schools, as the northern Bears travel to LA to take on the southern Bruins. Both teams are 3-0 in Pac-12 play. Cal’s success is a bit of a surprise, but, they did sweep Utah, so maybe not that much. They are outhitting UCLA, but the Bruins have much better pitching.

  • Arizona visits Eugene to take on the Ducks. The Wildcats, after going 0-3 in their first conference series, are still ranked in the top 30 in a few of the polls, and Oregon is around the #12 mark, so this should be a good series. After getting shut down by Beaver pitching, UA’s team batting average is no longer tops in the conference, but they are still far better at the plate than Oregon--almost 80 points higher. Oregon has the edge pitchingwise, but not by as wide a margin as you’d expect: a team ERA of 3.00 versus 3.58. And Arizona has a better OBA--.236 to 249. Regardless of who loses this series, both teams will still be in the upper half of the conference as the season progresses.

  • At first glance, 8-12 USC versus 4-14 Washington does not look like a promising series. But these teams are not that far apart, especially given the home field advantage the Huskies will enjoy playing in dreary Seattle. If you like close games with lots of scoring and an unpredictable finish, this series could be for you.

  • Utah blew its first real chance ever at a winning conference record last week when they were favored (allegedly) over Cal but got swept. Things will not be easier for them this week as they visit Palo Alto to take on a well rested Stanford club. One interesting stat: The Cardinal’s team batting average of .244 is only two points better than the Utes’ .242. Granted, Stanford has played some very tough opponents so far.

  • The blowout special is our nonconference series: Ivy League Brown University travels to Pullman to play upstart Wazzu, a surprise 2-1 victor over ASU in Tempe last week. The Cougs own the best BA in the conference (.320) and the worst ERA (4.35). I expect both stats to improve after this weekend. (For our purposes, the series will consist of the first three games.)

Borguy, we'll be in Section G, row e, down the third base line. Ophiman doesn't know it right now, but I'll be going with his wife on Sunday.

For your edification:

The term Section 8 refers to a category of discharge from the United States Military when judged mentally unfit for service. It also came to mean any serviceperson given such a discharge or behaving as if deserving such a discharge, as in the expression, "he's a Section 8". The term comes from Section VIII of the World War I era United States Army Regulation 615-360, which provided for the discharge of those deemed unfit for military service

Geez.....I thought I saw something where someone said something about not picking your team...or something like that. You remember anything like that RD?

Thought the Arizona schools where going to put up a fight. Oregon schools are playing their normal ball. Happy cj is being dominant. Tj surgery is rough. Impressed how Horton is nursing him along. Feeling lousy I voted for the ducks to lose this series.

So do each weeks totals get added together or does it start new each week?

it starts anew each week, after a few weeks usually start keeping track of average scores to see how well people are doing. broken up into two groups, those who have participated more than x # weeks and those who have participated less..... or here is an idea i just had, give them a 0 for each week they miss. just a suggestion I leave the decision up to DM since this is his baby
