WALNUT CREEK, Calif. — Oregon State senior shortstop Tyler Smith has been named Pac-12 Player of the Week and Arizona State junior right-handed pitcher Trevor Williams has been tabbed Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week for March 4-10, the Conference office announced Tuesday.

Smith paced Oregon State’s offense in a three-game sweep of Texas State over the weekend. The Thousand Oaks, Calif. native went 7-for-15 (.467) with one triple, one home run and six RBI. He slugged .800 during in the series and extended his hit streak to nine games, the longest by a Beaver this season. Smith had three hits in the first game of the series and followed it up with a pair of two-hit efforts. His home run, a three-run shot in the sixth inning on Sunday, snapped a 3-3 tie and propelled OSU to a 6-4 win. He also drove in three runs in the Beavers’ series-opening win on Friday night. On Saturday, he scored two runs – the first of which came after opening the fourth inning with a triple. Smith is hitting .355 on the year and has a team-leading 22 hits, 21 runs, one double, one triple, one home run and 13 RBI. His 21 hits rank second in the Pac-12.

This is Smith’s first career Pac-12 Player of the Week honor and Oregon State’s 61st all-time selection. Smith is OSU’s second straight Pac-12 Player of the Week recipient, as sophomore outfielder Michael Conforto took home the honor last week.

Williams tossed his second consecutive complete-game shutout on Saturday, scattering three hits and one walk across nine innings and striking out five batters in a 4-0 series-opening victory over Long Beach State. The San Diego native allowed just three base runners over the final six innings to set the tone for the Sun Devils’ eventual three-game series sweep. 82 of his 120 pitches in the outing went for strikes. Williams has struck out 26 batters and surrendered just three earned runs and four walks in a league-high 30 innings this season. He ranks third in the Pac-12 with a 0.90 ERA and boasts the Conference’s best opposing batting average (.149). Additionally, his 26 strikeouts rank third in the league.

This is Williams’ second career Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week selection and Arizona State’s 62nd all-time.
