Did the Cougars already give up on the first game, forfeit, and we aren't counting it?

I threw a blurb over on rivals to garner more interest. Maybe get one or two from that.

Pick analysis
  • Two teams were picked unanimously: UCLA 17-0 with 14 sweeps over UW, and ASU 17-0 with 10 sweeps over Wazzu.
  • Oregon was picked 16-1 over USC with 4 sweeps.
  • OSU is a 14-3 favorite over Arizona with 4 sweeps.
  • The closest series should be Utah (with its first-ever favored status), a 9-7 pick with one sweep over Cal.

One more thing, just to remind people: Each week is based on SIX SERIES, so scores are adjusted if more or fewer series are being played in a week. Because Stanford is out this week, each series will be multiplied by 1.2 points.

To our newbies, a couple notes: Please vote in the order the games are listed and use the abbreviations (JCR). And I like to know which team is your Pac-12 team, if you have one. Rowdy, I seem to remember you playing before, but I don't know what team you rooted for. If you'd prefer to be unaffiliated, that's fine too. (We have a known Razorback fan, for example )

Day one
  • Oregon State 6, Arizona 2. Matt Boyd went 7 IP and gave up only 2 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 6 and walking one, and the Beavers pounded the Wildcats for 14 hits to take game one. Michael Conforto led the Beavers with 3 hits, 3 RBIs, 2 runs scored, and a homer, a three-run jack in the first before Arizona’s Konner Wade got even one out. Kavin Keyes, Dylan Davis, and Tyler Smith all had 2 hits and 1 run scored apiece.
    OSU leads series 1-0.

  • Washington State 15, Arizona State 4. The Cougars exploded for 17 hits and four mulitple-run innings, including a 6-run 9th, to bake the Sun Devils in Tempe. ASU’s Trevor Williams pitched 7 innings, but he gave up 13 of those hits and 9 runs, 7 earned. Wazzu’s Collin Slaybaugh led the offense going 4 for 5 with 3 RBIs, 3 runs scored, and one stolen base. Adam Nelubowich had 2 hits and 3 RBIs. Joe Pistorese went 6.2 IP for the win.
    Wazzu leads series 1-0.

  • Oregon 5, USC 2. Oregon’s Scott Heineman, JJ Altobelli, and Brett Thomas all had 2 hits and an RBI, and Jake Reed held the Trojans to 5 hits and 2 earned runs over 7 innings.
    Oregon leads series 1-0.

  • California 9, Utah 5. Utah scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 5th to take a 5-4 lead over Cal, but the Bears scored five unanswered runs over the next two innings.
    Cal leads series 1-0.

  • Washington 2, UCLA 0 (b4).
    Suspended due to fog.

Hey TD.....glad to see ya made it. A little late for this weekend's picks but if you can pick 'em right, the sky's the limit (or at least top dog in the winner's circle). Personally, I only got 2 out of 5 right tonight.

RD i bear you no ill will personally, but it is the norm for you to be near the bottom in the picks more times than not, so I am just keeping the joke alive. it is still only one game in, plenty can change, and i am sure you would be happy finishing in the bottom of the standings each week so long as the duckies keep winning

In the continuation of yesterday's fogged out game in LA, UW had the bases loaded with one out in the top of the 15th and couldn't push one across to break a 2 tie.

UCLA closes out the win and you'd have to think the dawgs are finished with this series with such a demoralizing loss.
