WALNUT CREEK, Calif. — Arizona State redshirt sophomore outfielder Trever Allen has been named Pac-12 Player of the Week and Oregon State senior left-handed pitcher Matt Boyd has been tabbed Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week for Feb. 18-24, the Conference office announced Tuesday.

Allen led the Sun Devils to a pair of victories on the road at Tennessee with five RBI, four hits, four runs scored and two home runs. With a .833 slugging percentage, he accounted for seven of ASU’s 11 runs over the weekend. He hit a three-run home run in game one to power ASU to a series-opening victory, and with ASU down one in game three, he battled through a 10-pitch at-bat to hit a two-run home run and put ASU ahead for good. He made a number of spectacular catches in right field to prevent several runs from scoring and played a pivotal role in preserving the Devils’ shutout in game one. He twice scored from third on wild pitches in the second and third games and registered his second multi-hit game and third multi-RBI game of the season.

This is Allen’s first career Pac-12 Player of the Week honor and Arizona State’s Conference-leading 102nd all-time selection.

Boyd had the best outing of his Oregon State career on Friday night as he and the Beavers defeated San Diego State, 2-0. The Mercer Island, Wash. native worked a career-best 8 1/3 innings and struck out a career-high nine batters in the win. He allowed just five hits in his outing against a club that came into the series batting .291. Opposing runners reached third just once on the left-hander, who was making just the fourth start of his career. He has helped guide the Beavers, who took all five games last week, to an 8-0 record, the team’s best start since 1962. OSU swept San Diego State over the weekend. Boyd began the game against SDSU with an ERA of 2.57. After shutting out the Aztecs, it dropped to 1.17. He is Oregon State’s leader with 13 strikeouts in 15 1/3 innings this season and opponents are hitting just .196 against him.

This is Boyd’s first career Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week selection and Oregon State’s 67th all-time selection.
