Hey, Bob. You get your wish today: Matt Boyd batting DH!

Okay, that's a little duck-tongue in cheek. They'll do the switcheroo once they see the SDSU pitcher, but I'd still like to see Boyd swinging it again.

Beaver fans (and Duck fans or other Beaver detractors): How far do you think this team will go before taking its first loss? Today and tomorrow are still going to be tough, but if we get past the Aztecs with a sweep, well, here's the rest of the schedule until conference play:

03/01/13 vs. Bryant Corvallis, Ore. 5:35 p.m. PT
03/02/13 vs. Bryant Corvallis, Ore. 1:05 p.m. PT
. . . . . . . . . vs. Bryant Corvallis, Ore. 3:30 p.m. PT
03/03/13 vs. Bryant Corvallis, Ore. 1:05 p.m. PT
03/05/13 at Portland Portland, Ore. 3:00 p.m. PT
03/08/13 vs. Texas State Corvallis, Ore. 5:35 p.m. PT
03/09/13 vs. Texas State Corvallis, Ore. 2:05 p.m. PT
03/10/13 vs. Texas State Corvallis, Ore. 1:05 p.m. PT
03/12/13 vs. San Francisco Corvallis, Ore. 5:35 p.m. PT

If they don't lose today or tomorrow (which I'm thinking there is a 50/50 chance) they'll probably drop one to Texas State

Andrew Moore looking good. First pitch strikes to each batter in the first.

Great play by Tyler Smith B5th, lobbing it on the run to get the runner at first.
Loving Andrew Moore's pitching more and more. We got ourselves three good starters. (Plus some good ones who have yet to pitch.)

Me too. My timing has been great for each of the first few games. When I finally get around to turning on the game, the Beavers have just scored their first runs.

I can see the Beavs going 14 and 0 before dropping their first game.

"Oh good! We didn't miss anything...." :p

I guess Jay Reese doesn't like the music the Aztecs play for each better. Haha. Wonder what they were playing at the time. Why did that guy get picked off at second? He stopped his slide four feet from the bag.

Rain delay in Eugene. And it's sunny here in Newberg.

Again, the starter goes 8.1 and they pull him to give a closer some time on the mound. Those are not needed moves; they are doing it intentionally for the closers' benefit.

Great job by Andrew Moore. 8.1 IP, 26 BF, 2 hits, 0 runs, 2 Ks, 0 walks.

Could be early season pitch counts. Who knows.

When Wetzler comes back, and the way Moore is pitching, I would be very tempted to put Child's big arm in the Pen.

Weez, I agree (on Childs). I think he's very consistent, but he could be our number four starter the way the others are throwing right now.

So here's a parag from the OSU website on today's game:

The win sends the Beavers to a 7-0 record for the first time since the 2007 season and third time under head coach Pat Casey - the first came in 2004. In going for the sweep Sunday at noon, Oregon State has a chance to be 8-0 for the first time since 1962. That club went 18-0 to begin the season en route to a 26-6 record and a berth in the NCAA Western Regional in Santa Clara, Calif.

And another from yesterday:

A win Saturday by the Beavers would push Oregon State to 7-0 for the first time since the 2007 season. The Beavers have reached that mark just 11 times in the team's history. Pat Casey's clubs have done it twice, accomplishing the feat first in 2004.

Sounds like 18-0, then 7-0 tied twelve times. A win tomorrow would make this the outright second-best start ever, according to my interpretation of these two statements. What would it take to win 18 or 19 to start the season?

If we win all those nonconference games listed above, that would put us at 18-0. We'd have to then beat Arizona in Tucson to beat that record.

Toast

Doesn't matter who you are playing...winning 18 in a row (and we have 11 to go) is extremely extremely difficult. Especially when on any given day LMU can beat Oregon (jab, jab, low blow)...

I'm most scared of Portland. I know it is a game that we should win, but it smells like a trap game, like every time Cal or USC play OSU in football, or every time OSU plays UCLA in football. (granted, it is apples and oranges, but I just get bad vibes when it comes to UP.)

SB, I agree about your concern of UoP. I remember several years ago when the Pilots put a thumping on the Beavs. In fact, Pat Casey was not happy as he thought the Pilots were bunting and stealing bases when they already had a big lead.

When a team totally owns you, like Oregon State does Portland, there is no letting up when you are ahead.

I am not that afraid of the Pilots this year. Last year they had something special with two good starters, and though we wouldn't see either in a Tuesday game, I think OSU's number five guy will be better than theirs. I'm with Opihi; I think Texas State might be the biggest threat to that streak.
