WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – Seven freshmen from the Pac-12 have been named to the 2012 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American team, as released by Collegiate Baseball newspaper on Wednesday.

Oregon State outfielder Michael Conforto leads the All-American team as the Freshman Player of the Year. The Pac-12 Freshman of the Year hit .349 and finished the season as the league leader in RBI (76), slugging percentage (.601) and total bases (131) and tied for first in home runs (13).

Five Pac-12 pitchers made the freshman All-American team as starting pitchers: UCLA RHP David Berg (5-3, 1.71 ERA), Oregon State LHP Jayce Fry (5-3, 2.45 ERA), Oregon RHP Jake Reed (7-4, 2.93 ERA), USC LHP Stephen Tarpley (5-4, 3.22 ERA) and UCLA LHP Grant Watson (9-2, 4.41 ERA). Berg is an all-conference selection, while Fry, Reed and Tarpley are honorable mentions.

Stanford third baseman Alex Blandino is one of seven freshmen across the country to be named an All-American at his position. He hit .295 with nine doubles, eight home runs and 39 RBI this season, earning him an all-conference honorable mention.
