WALNUT CREEK, Calif. — ARIZONA sophomore left fielder Johnny Field has been named Pac-12 Player of the Week and teammate junior right-handed pitcher Kurt Heyer has been named Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week for May 7-13, Commissioner Larry Scott announced Monday.
Field batted .583 in Arizona’s series sweep at CALIFORNIA, registering a base hit at least once all three games to extend his hitting streak to 12 games. The sophomore amassed seven hits, four runs, his second home run of the season, two doubles and an RBI to accompany a pair of drawn walks, two outfield assists and a .643 on-base percentage for the weekend.
This is Field’s first career Pac-12 Player of the Week honor and the 57th all-time selection for Arizona. Field is the second Wildcat to earn Player of the Week honors this season, with Seth Mejias-Brean winning on March 19.
Heyer threw his fifth complete game of the season (the eighth of his career) on Friday, striking out nine and walking one in Arizona’s 3-1 victory at Cal. He scattered five hits and no earned runs over nine innings as he limited the Golden Bears to just two at-bats (0-for-2) with a runner in scoring position. Heyer improved to 9-2 on the season and lowered his ERA to 2.28.
This is Heyer’s fifth career Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week selection and Arizona’s 49th all-time selection. This is Heyer’s second Pitcher of the Week award this season, as he first earned the honor on March 6.
