Can anyone tell why these schools played (or will play) split home/away 3-game series this year? Does it have anything to do with the Aggies leaving the Big XII and this being their final year to play these teams as conference foes?

They do this every year. These games draw very large crowds and it gives the schools an opportunity to split the gate every year. It has nothing to do with A&M leaving the conference.

6-4-3 hit the nail on the head. Personally, I've always thought it was silly to play a late game on Friday, then have one school have to drive over to the next the next morning. But they do it for attendance reasons.
