Riverduck, the Ducks were very impressive tonight. I can now see them winning the Pac 12. I'm really impressed with Keudell. Was he a starter last year? I picked them to go 2-1 this weekend. I can almost see a sweep now.
I was amazed to see how Stanford fell apart in the last inning.

Well, missed the win. Slept good though.
RD, Good to hear about your son. Trying to determine unknown things like that can be a drain emotionally and physically. Good to get that monkey off your back.
You really need to find another duck to get on here though. This is a Bugs Bunny "dog pile on the rabbit" thing going on. Too many beavers (is there such a thing?) and only one duck (one is the loneliest number, eh). So, no. It's not you offending me because your team is doing well. I don't think you have ever offended me. But I am a Beaver, and the ducks doing well, now that is, well for lack of a better word, offensive. (Until post season. Then if the Beavs ain't there, I always root for P12 teams). I will try to back off a bit though.
Good win for your duckies today.
I am still going to stick with my pick though. The Cardinal 2-1

I was amazed to see how Stanford fell apart in the last inning. Keudell has always been one of my favorites. I played alot of baseball in my day and caught at the collegiate level (NAIA) He reminds me alot of Dave Maddux when he was pitching for the braves in the day. Just really good movement on his ball. He was the guy who put the nail in the coffin so to speak to complete the sweep last year of the beavs. The think that is working for the ducks is Horton has taken over control of the pitching staff, he builds his team based off of pitching and defense. If you keep your opponent from scoring, you don't need to be hitting .350.. I think the ducks are hitting one of the lowest, but that serves them well when they face tough pitchers, because if our staff keeps the damage down, we are in it, just like yesterday. Appel yesterday had a good game, through like 150 pitches, and struck out a ton, but it was that one run in the first that gave the Ducks a chance to win it. Alex right now is in his groove. I really don't see him wavering for the rest of the season, he continues to peak, and if Keudell has a good outing, most teams go "whew" and then they get a new version of Alex with reed, who is a righty who throws harder, little more raw, but a super solid freshman. And Tessar is similiar as well. They are kind of like the three amigos. I thought the 2010 team was great, but this team has scrappers, and just won' quit. Reminds me of the Beavers when they are on.
-- The Beavs are the best baseball team in the in the pac 12, I am just a stupid duck... QUACK QUACK Conforto is a big bopper and Moore is the best freshman pitcher and should be pitching for the ducks!

Anyway, I am hoping you guys start getting things together. I really want you guys to be firing on all cylinders when we play you. I am feeling good about this series.

Anyway- the gluten statement was made because I just found out my son was intolerant to wheat, and that was a huge breakthrough for my family. My wife was diagnosed with celiac last year, so I know what you're going through. It's always fun asking for a gluten-free menu when we eat out, then having to wait for someone to find the computer printout menu somewhere hidden in the manager's office, and my wife trying to decide, after everyone else has ordered a long time ago, which of the items (no pictures!) sound as good as the real ones.

Beaver fans, if anyone knows: I haven't heard all the pregame stuff over the last week, so Mike Parker may have covered this. But I'm wondering if anyone knows what is behind the recent pitching rotation shakeup.
- Taylor Starr got his first OSU start ever, against Nevada. I get that. A midweek game, and you give the hard-luck kid who sat out two seasons with two TJ surgeries his chance to start a game. Great stuff.
- Then Dan Child, who has been pretty solid as our #2, started the Wednesday game against Nevada. Did we not have another kid we wanted to try out in the starting position? Whatever happened to Adam Duke, BTW?
- Friday's game against Arkansas-Blind Puff, Wetzler. No surprise.
- Saturday, Jace Fry starts. Okay, that was Dan Child's slot, but he probably doesn't get the start after starting just four days ago. But do they move Child into the Sunday start because Fry has improved enough to become our #2? Or have they decided to move somebody else into the Sunday slot starting tomorrow?

I just heard Parker say Taylor Starr will get tomorrow's start, so I'm more confused. Unless the whole purpose is to move Fry to Saturdays and Child to Sundays in time for next week's series against UCLA.

Tyler Smith's hitting streak ends at 14 games. He was 0 for 1 today with three walks, and was slated to get his final plate appearance in the 7th inning, but Joey Matthews hit a leadoff solo homer to invoke a 10-run rule victory.

Freshman pitcher for the ducks threw a 7 ip 2 hit shutout.. Amazing job by the pitchers. Very easy to win games when you only have to score 1..

Not to downplay the excellent play by the beavs, but the team down south is quietly creating quite the resume. Our pitchers are making it very easy for us to win games. 24-9, 10-4, tied for first place in pac play, horton just got his 600th win. Really nice to see Horton take this Duck program to a high standard in just his fourth year from creating a program from scratch. All I have to say is WoW. Ophi.. take notes.

DM,
I think RD flew to close to the sun and got heat stroke. This may have affected his already unstable mind causing him to put the duckies on top of every list he makes. His grocery list probably starts off with duck, which would make him a cannibal, wouldn't it? I have a feeling the Cardinal will bring RD back to earth in a very painful way. (Or at least that's what I picked)(fingers crossed) Does it have to be a yellow zero? Can't it be a big green zero "0"? Thas pretty. Ha Ha- Our freshman pitcher made that junior all american eat crow. Love it when Kendall profiles a team right before the ducks play them. Backfires every time.

Oregon State Freshman Michael Conforto is a beast. Four more RBIs today. Hard to tell because the NCAA doesn't update its stats until after the weekend, but Conforto was in an 8-way tie for 19th in RBIs in Division I at the beginning of the week with 36 RBIs. There were nine players with 37, and the top RBI total was 46. Conforto now has 50.
In RBIs per game, he was already #6 with 1.33 PG (which I guarantee has gone up) and the number 1 being 1.48 per game.

Week 9 Summary
- Arizona beat UCLA in a close 4-3 game one before getting blown out 15-3 in game two. In the rubber game, the Bruins came from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits to take control and beat the Wildcats, setting up a three-way tie for first in the conference between UCLA, Oregon, and Arizona, all three at 10-5.
UCLA wins series 2-1.
- Oregon showed this weekend that they are for real. After sweeping ASU and taking to 2 of 3 at UCLA, the Ducks took their third consecutive series from a top-tier Pac-12 team, beating Stanford 2 games to 1 in Palo Alto. Oregon is now tied for first in the conference. Stanford, reeling now in conference play with a 4-8 record, gets no rest as they have to face the ASU Spoiler Devils next week, then travel to UCLA and OSU.
Oregon wins series 2-1.
- ASU improves its futile year by downing another conference foe. USC’s postseason chances took a hit after getting swept by the banned Sun Devils. USC hardly competed with ASU, getting outscored 17-2 overall and outhit 30-14.
ASU sweeps series 3-0.
- The Huskies scored two in the top of the 9th to break a 3-3 tie and salvage a win. Cal moves out of 11th place into a 9th place tie with...Stanford. Utah takes its rightful place in the cellar.
Cal wins series 2-1.
- The Utah-Wazzu series did not live up to its schizophrenic feast-or-famine expectations. Wazzu won, 2-1, but the games were pretty close and there was no blowout.
Wazzu wins series 2-1.
- OSU struggled against UAPB in game one, but turned on the jets in the remaining two games. The Golden Lions travel south to Eugene to play a Monday game against the Ducks.
Oregon State sweeps series 3-0.

Midway Average Totals
Here are your midseason average scores. A couple of things to note:
- There will be 11 weeks of Pac-12 conference games. You will need to participate in at least 9 of those weeks...maybe 8 if I feel generous.
- I've already divided the scores into eligible players and those who have disqualified themselves.

Well, I guess if I start picking the Ducks every week they'll start losing
Beavs finish out their non-conference stretch nicely going 6-0 in the past week!

well, personal accomplishments.. Beavo fans are understanding that Keudell's shutout vs them last year was his stuff, not their lack of. Beavos pitchers never got back to back. WORD OM- I would watch your picks. Ducks are fickle vs easy teams, no guarantee. They game up when it counts though. Oh man, Altobelli just jammed his shoulder. Heniman, Jone, Tessar, now Altobelli. Wow,
Golden Lions took Oregon to the wire. Were the ducks taking them too lightly or did Oregon start their downhill slide? We'll see when they play Portland Wednesday and then see if the Cougs get to eat a little duck for dinner this weekend. Or will yours truly eat some more crow?
