College pitching is awesome this year with Purke, Cole, Bauer, Jungmann, Green, Gray, etc. (sorry I could not name every single pitcher...if I left your teams pitcher out, don't kill me).
Anyway, who is everyone's opinion on THE BEST starting pitcher in the country? (Don't make this more difficult than it has to be). I go with...
Purke

Purke, but I'm biased.
Any of those top 4 or 5 guys are really close, they all bring something a little different to the table though.

I really like Sonny Gray. But any of those mentioned can be considered excellent starters. Purke really impressed me last year as well. Hope he keeps it up

If we go by just performance this season, foolish I know, I would say Jungmann.

In terms of pure stuff and just his physical nature and endurance, I have to go with Gerrit Cole of UCLA. I'd say Purke is a not-far-behind second.

Although he is good, I don't think Sonny Gray is in Purke and Cole's territory

Throw in Jed Bradley from GT. Kid is nasty.
By seasons end, you will also put Mark Pope in that list. Kid has really developed quite nicely over the past couple of seasons.

Gray did good work yesterday against Stanford. He may not be mentioned this year with Purke or Cole but his stuff can be unhittable when he is on.

Bradley threw a no-no through 7 today vs. St. Johns. Relief gave up two hits in the 8th though.

You really can't go wrong with any of the Top 5, (Purke, Cole, Bauer, Gray or Jungmann) but I think someone who may get overlooked BECAUSE of the 'Purke factor' is Kyle Winkler, watched the streaming of the Fullerton/TCU game from Friday and he is quite nasty in his own right. I'm not saying he's #1 by any stretch but he deserves to have his name thrown into the large hat that seems to have been put out there. edited by NolesFanJosh on 2/26/2011

Danny Hultzen at Virginia. No one has had stats as impressive as his over the last two years. Record of 20-2 and ERAs of 2.17 (2009) and 2.78 (2010).

Oh how did I forget to mention Hultzen! I saw him last year live absolutely embarrass FSU. I think he through a no hitter through 7 or something sick.

Sam Gaviglio. 1-0, with a 0.00 ERA in 15.2 innings. Also has 15 strikeouts and pitched a complete game, two hit shutout against #25 Connecticut.
