WALNUT CREEK, Calif. — Stanford junior first baseman Brian Ragira has been named Pac-12 Player of the Week and UCLA sophomore right-handed pitcher David Berg has been tabbed Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week for April 15-21, the Conference office announced Monday.

Ragira batted .444 (8-for-18) with four extra-base hits — including a pair of home runs — eight RBI and six runs scored as the Cardinal went 3-1 on the week and notched its fourth straight series victory. The Arlington, Texas native hit safely and registered at least one RBI in all four games. He opened the week with a two-run homer in the first inning of a 9-2 win over Pacific on Tuesday. In Friday’s 4-3 win over Arizona, he went 1-for-3 with an RBI and reached base after being hit by a pitch in the fifth inning. He followed it up with a 4-for-5 performance on Saturday, during which he nearly hit for the cycle. He doubled, tripled and collected a pair of singles while driving in a pair of runs and scoring three more. In a series-clinching win for Stanford on Sunday, Ragira went 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored. The junior, who leads the Cardinal with six home runs, has homered five times in his last nine games.

This is Ragira’s second career Pac-12 Player of the Week honor and Stanford’s 69th all-time selection.

Berg pitched 7.1 scoreless innings in relief, allowing just two hits and striking out four batters. The Covina, Calif. native picked up a win and two saves while helping the Bruins to three road victories on the week, including a pair of shutout wins over No. 7 Oregon. He fanned three and did not allow a baserunner in a four-inning outing against UC Irvine on Tuesday en route to earning his fourth win of the season. He held Oregon scoreless in 3.1 innings of work on Friday and Saturday to claim his ninth and 10th saves of the season. Berg, who has not allowed a run in his last nine appearances (16 innings), leads the Bruins with a 0.85 ERA.

This is Berg’s first career Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week selection and UCLA’s 63rd all-time.
