2017 Top Prospects

Ricardo De La Torre  SS - 2017 - Juana Diaz, PR
Auburn

De La Torre impressed in every facet of the game and did so while making it look easy. A 6.75 runner with some of the easiest plus arm strength across the diamond (up to 95 mph) the young shortstop brought a hush over the stadium during his batting practice session and carried the strong performance into his game at-bats.

Johnathan Rodriguez  OF - 2017 - Toa Baja, PR
Florida International

Rodriguez is the type of athlete who catches your attention immediately with a long and highly projectable 6-foot-3, 170-pound frame and he has the tools too. With easy plus arm strength from the outfield (96 mph) after running a 6.96 60-yard, Rodriguez continued to impress with the bat from both sides of the plate showing both strength and contact skills that are only going to get louder.

Yaron Rodriguez  RHP - 2017 - Luquillo, PR

Rodriguez has a strong, athletic build and couples it well with his quick and loose arm action to produce a fastball that was up to 86 mph and consistently pounded the strike zone. He's more than just a fastball pitcher though as Rodriguez also showed a tight spinning and late biting 12-6 curveball and a cutter up to 82 mph that showed late life.

Jerryell Rivera Gonzalez  LHP - 2017 - Toa Baja, PR
Florida International

Rivera Gonzalez showed some of the best velocity on the event and projects for more as he continues to fill out his long and lean frame. The young lefthander topped out at 87 mph from an extended three-quarters arm slot while creating angle at release. His arm slot would vary at release but he flashed a curveball with short depth and a changeup at 73 mph.

Alexander Castro  RHP - 2017 - Luquillo, PR
Florida

Castro showed some of the best velocity of the event with a fast and loose arm action that helped produce a fastball up to 89 mph. Listed at 6-foot, 145-pounds Castro did a nice job of working on top of his heater showing downhill plane to either side of the plate with short running life.

Joshua Rivera  SS - 2017 - Carolina, PR

After impressing defensively in the drills portion of the event where he topped out at 90 mph across the diamond, Rivera brought his clean actions to the game portion and even made a barehanded play at second base look rather routine. He showed a short swing from the right side against live pitching and connected for hard contact to all fields.

Osvaldo Berrios Flores  RHP - 2017 - Juncos, PR
Alabama State

Berrios Flores was more than effective during his outing the mound as he spotted his mid-80s fastball expertly to either side of the plate with comfort and intent. With a long and whippy arm action, the righthanded Berrios Flores also showed a short and sharp slider up to 75 mph.

Shamir M Morales Rodriguez  C - 2017 - San Lorenzo, PR
Alabama State/Broward CC

Morales Rodriguez had a strong showing behind the plate both in the drills portion, where he popped an event best 1.85, and showed his arm strength (76 mph), and in game where his release and overall actions remained quick. He stays short to the ball with his righthanded swing, connecting for line drive contact to all fields while remaining under control.

Carlos Diaz  OF - 2017 - Caguas, PR
Broward CC

Diaz immediately caught the attention of scouts in attendance with his workout numbers which included a showcase best 6.65 60-yard dash and big arm strength with a top throw of 90 mph. His defensive actions are smooth and the arm action is quick and loose. From the left side Diaz showed interesting bat speed with a line drive swing plane and hard contact to his pull side.

Abdiel Layer  SS - 2017 - San Juan, PR
Miami-Dade College

The younger brother of 2016 top prospect Jose Layer, Abdiel shows intriguing tools of his own that will continue to develop with additional strength gains to his athletic 6-foot-2 frame. A switch-hitter who shows bat speed with barrel feel from both sides, Layer also impressed with clean defensive actions up the middle with soft hands and big arm strength across the diamond.

Jose Marcano  SS - 2017 - Humacao, PR
Broward CC

Listed at 6-foot, 165-pounds Marcano Rivera impressed on both sides of the ball showing light actions on his feet up the middle with good carry on his strong throws (85 mph) across the diamond. Hitting from the right side he showed sound bat speed with leverage at contact connecting for hard contact with jump off the barrel.

Josue Sanchez  C - 2017 - Bayamon, PR

Sanchez performed well on both sides of the ball during the live games and showed similar defensive actions behind the plate in drills where he popped a 1.97 and threw 75 mph down to second base. He showed a short swing to the ball and handled the barrel of the bat well creating some loud contact in game.

Jorge Oscar Benitez Roman  LHP - 2017 - Toa Baja, PR

A young lefthander, Benitez Roman sat comfortably in the low-80s over his four innings of work and topped out at 84 mph from a high three-quarters arm slot with angle at release. His curveball steadily improved over the outing and showed comfort with his changeup at 75 mph with short fading life.

Ian Matos  OF - 2017 - Toa Alta, PR
Alabama State/Galveston College

Matos impressed during the drills portion of the Underclass workout as he ranked near the top in both 60-yard times posting a 6.82 before showing off solid arm strength from the outfield, topping at 87 mph with good carry from a compact arm action. His righthanded swing is capable of producing line drive contact to the middle of the field and projects moving forward.


2018 Top Prospects

Manny Gonzalez  OF - 2018 - Toa Baja, PR
Wabash Valley College

Just entering his sophomore year, Gonzalez showed off his athleticism and projects well moving forward as he continues to fill out his 6-foot-3, 160-pound frame. Showing accuracy while working through the ball in the outfield with a top throw of 86 mph, Gonzalez also showed potential with his bat where he stays short to the ball with looseness and leverage out front.


2019 Top Prospects

Adrian Colon  OF - 2019 - Humacao, PR
Southern California

Only entering his freshman year of high school, the lefthanded hitting Colon made you take note of his swing throughout his batting practice session with easy projectable bat speed and line drive contact to his pull side. He continued to make loud in game contact with both a double and triple to right field. Colon also ran a 6.88 60-yard dash.
