2017 Top Prospects

Bryson Worrell  UT - 2017 - Sims, NC
East Carolina

The East Carolina commit showed serious two-way potential. Has impressive arm strength, topping at 84 on the mound and throwing 86 from the OF, in addition to popping a 2.02 from behind the plate and showing off his athleticism by running a 6.69 60 yard dash. He also projects for both batting average and power from both sides of the plate, giving him a very high offensive upside.

Zach Martinez  RHP - 2017 - West End, NC
College of Charleston

Martinez showed some of the best arm strength of the event, working an easy 4 innings on the mound with a FB that topped at 86 and worked 82-85 for the entirety of those four innings. Very quick arm with projectable velocity, has some deceptive hesitation in delivery, gets downhill well with good plane and running life on FB. Also an impressive hitter, with quick hands and a leveraged swing that projects for power.

Tucker Rogers  RHP - 2017 - Raleigh, NC
Uncommitted

Rogers' delivery is very deceptive, with a big hip turn that hides the ball very well and rotating through and getting downhill with a FB that worked 78-82 and topped at 83. From a 3/4 slot, the FB has good riding life to right-handed hitters, and he complemented his fastball well with a good CB and a very advanced changeup, throwing strikes with his entire arsenal.

Ryan Christie  LHP - 2017 - Matthews, NC
Uncommitted

Christie showed a long, loose arm action when on the mound with good lower half usage and hip rotation, driving towards the plate well and throwing strikes with a 3-pitch mix. His FB topped at 82 and he complemented the FB with a tight, sharp CB with 1/7 shape, as well as quality feel for a fading, deceptive changeup.

Cameron Norgren  3B - 2017 - Cary, NC
East Tenn State

Norgren took one of the better batting practice sessions of the event, showing consistent feel for the barrel with repeatable, simple mechanics that allow him to get the bat head out and hit the ball hard. He extends well through contact and has some natural loft, projecting for power as he continues to develop in addition to his already sound hitting tools.

Brandon Andrews  RHP - 2017 - Mebane, NC
Nicholls State

Andrews was impressive on the mound, with the glove, and at the plate throughout the weekend. Throwing 89 MPH from the outfield with clean actions, he was one of the front runners for outfield velocity throughout drills. He also showed a clean bat path when swinging, with good jump off the barrel with consistent timing. He was up to 82 on the mound as well, with good arm speed and life to arm side on FB along with a sharp CB.

Riley Cameron  C - 2017 - Vass, NC
University of South Carolina-Sumter

Cameron showed well defensively, moving well to the ball and throwing accurately with solid arm strength from the outfield as well as behind the plate; but was even more impressive with the bat. Starting from a low hand set and firing through the zone with advanced bat speed and strength, showing jump off the barrel and not making soft contact very often. High power projection as well.

Will Cockman  RHP - 2017 - Greer, SC
Uncommitted

Prior to exiting his outing a bit early, Cockman was showing very well on the mound. He worked 80-82 and topped at 83 with heavy, sinking life on his fastball, pounding the bottom of the zone with the pitch and getting swings and misses in addition to weak contact. He complemented the FB well with a good 12/6 CB that showed excellent spin and depth.

Ben LaSpaluto  SS - 2017 - Apex, NC
Gardner-Webb

One of the better defensive players in the event, LaSpaluto was very light on his feet with excellent range to both sides when fielding the baseball. He moves well both in the infield and outfield, and shows very good arm strength as well, topping at 88 from the OF and 84 from the IF. He also posted a very fast 6.71 60 yard dash time.

2018 Top Prospects

Evan Mauldin  RHP - 2018 - Belmont, NC
Appalachian State

Mauldin has some of the most projectable arm action in the entire event, with a very clean, very easy arm stroke with minimal effort. Already generating solid velocity at 80-83, Mauldin's fastball velocity projects exceedingly well moving forward. His delivery mechanics are solid, and his command of the FB and sharp, two-plane slider is very advanced. A very impressive performance for him.

Logan Whitaker  RHP - 2018 - Winston Salem, NC
North Carolina State

At 6'4" 160, Whitaker has a highly projectable, long frame with lots of room to fill out. With a FB up to 82 MPH, the ball was very easy out of his hand and exploded on hitters with lots of velocity projection. He held that velocity well throughout his outing, and showed command of the FB to both sides of the plate as well as up and down. He has good feel for his CB which showed 12/6 shape, and also showed a CH with some fade to it.

Brendan Wright  RHP - 2018 - Holly Springs, NC
Campbell

Wright, a highly projectable young right-hander, was very impressive on the mound. Consistently worked 80-83 and held that velocity over several innings, showing a long, easy arm action with smoothness and repeatability. Understands sequencing and has advanced overall feel for pitching. Showed good feel for SL and CH as well, with the slider having very good tilt and the change flashing fade to arm side.

Cody Willis  1B - 2018 - Powhatan, VA
Louisburg College

Showed solid two-way potential with the bat and on the mound. Physical hitter, showing good bat speed with lots of leverage and strength in swing, legitimate HR threat. Very deceptive on the mound with good physicality, slings it from lower 3/4 slot and hides the ball well. Commanded FB well to both sides with good life. Very durable frame with good projection remaining.

2019 Top Prospects

Garrett McCraw  OF - 2019 - Holly Springs, NC
Uncommitted

McCraw showed well in several phases of the game throughout the weekend, getting up to 80 on the mound with good feel for both CB and CH as off speed pitches; in addition to showing intriguing and projectable hitting tools in game action. He threw 80 MPH from the outfield as well as popping 2.10 seconds from behind home plate.
