2010 Top Prospects

Mike Ellis  RHP - 2010 - Surrey, BC CAN
Florida International

Ellis was impressive during his outing here. He has a good pitcher’s body, with room for continued development and growth. Loose arm action and the ball jumps out of his hand. Fastball was up to 87mph with good life, and mixed in two quality breaking pitches. The slider and curveball both show good spin and feel, he was very effective changing speeds, drawing several defensive swings from opposing hitters.

Keenan Chanin  RHP - 2010 - Surrey, BC CAN
El Paso CC

Chanin was the most polished pitcher at the event. He is very clean and smooth mechanically, staying well balanced and showing a nice smooth arm stroke. His fastball topped at 86mph, and there’s more in there. His 11-5 breaking ball shows promise. Business like approach to the game, showed a good degree of pitchability.

Peter Summerville  C - 2010 - Seattle, WA
Santa Clara

Summerville has a big physical build, and it makes him an ideal target behind the plate. Sets up and receives well, and is quick moving to block. His best throw to second was 76mph with a 1.90 pop time. Hits from a wide base and generates good bat speed. Very relaxed approach, handles the ball well on the inner half and can drive it there. Committed to Santa Clara.

Peyton Harrod  RHP - 2010 - Sammamish, WA
Uncommitted

Harrod showed an advanced approach to pitching during his outing. His mechanics are clean and simple, he stays balanced and uses limited movement. His arm works well, and he is a lower effort thrower. His fastball topped at 84mph and there is more velocity to come. Curveball is a 10-4 breaker, and he gains consistency with it he will be tough to hit. Knows how to set hitters up.

Michael Russo  3B - 2010 - Sammamish, WA
Uncommitted

Big physical build, long and lean with a high waist. Has a chance to play both ways. Good actions at 3B with good footwork and hands, and moves well laterally with good body control. Hits from a wide base and shows good balance and extension in his swing and the ball jumps off his bat. Fastball up to 83mph on the mound, looks huge on the hill and has a good presence. Shows good command and forces contact, strike thrower.

2011 Top Prospects

Cole Wiper  RHP - 2011 - Bellevue, WA
Oregon

Wiper has a highly projectable body at 6’3”/175. He’s tall and lean and looks the part on the mound. He has a fast arm and topped out at 89mph on his fastball. Curveball is a 12-6 breaker with good downward action, could be a big time strikeout pitch as he becomes more consistent with it. He will be one to watch this spring.

Aaron Thomassen  RHP - 2011 - Seattle, WA
Uncommitted

Raw athlete with some very good tools to develop. Long and loose arm action on the hill and has arm strength. Hides the ball well from the hitter, staying balanced, and drives the ball to the plate. Has ability in the outfield as well, topped at 84mph on the mound, with a best throw of 86mph from the outfield. Aggressive defender with a good first step.

Garrett Anderson  LHP - 2011 - Puyallup, WA
Uncommitted

Another very projectable arm. Big body, 6’4”/200 with present strength. Mechanics are a little raw at this point, but they also help him create deception. No question about his arm speed. His fastball topped at 85mph, and uses an upper 60’s curveball with it. The ball really seemed to jump on hitters and they have trouble picking it up out of his hand. High follow.

2012 Top Prospects

Louis Boyd  SS - 2012 - North Vancouver, BC CAN
Uncommitted

Boyd was one of the most exciting players to watch over the course of the weekend. His is a very live-bodied athlete and was flying around the field throughout. His hands and feet work well, he begins in good defensive position and anticipates well off the bat. Good body control and range, showing good lateral quickness. Aggressive approach at the plate, and has hitting tools. Balanced and under control with his swing and shows good bat speed. Hustles hard out of the box each time, he’s a gamer and his enthusiasm is obvious.
