2002 Top Prospects

Marvin Urdaneta  OF - 2002 - Tampa, FL
Uncommitted

Ran a 6.41 60 yard and looked very good in BP. His arm is at least MLB average. He was easily the top tools position player in Cedar Rapids. He is starting to get some serious interest from scouts.

Zach Hammes  RHP - 2002 - Iowa City, IA
Iowa

He was 87 to 89 with good life and an easy arm. His slider was impressive and he was in control on the mound. We have seen him before and he was equally impressive and maybe even more effective.

Cesar Carrillo  RHP - 2002 - Hammond, IN
Miami

Cesar was excellent in both roles but looked the part of a top pitching prospect. He showed a 88 to 90 fastball and touched 92. He has a fast arm and drew a lot of attention from the scouts. At SS he was quick on his feet and showed off his arm strength from the hole.

James Peterson  1B - 2002 - Winterset, IA
Wichita State

On the mound he had mid 80’s velocity and at the plate he demonstrated Major League wood power. Put on a display in BP and carried it over to live pitching. A strong looking left handed hitter that can hit some long ones.

Zachary Daeges  IF - 2002 - Harlan, IA
Creighton

We have seen Daeges several times, Mid to high 80’s, touch 90 fastball with good command. He hit well and handled some top pitchers with his quick hands and good looking swing from the left side.

Eric Wordekemper  RHP - 2002 - Storm Lake, IA
Creighton

Showed an 88 mph fastball and good arm action with his change-up. Has the strength to throw that speed consistently for 7 innings. Ran a 7.18 and proved he can hit to both fields.

Edward Spychalski  RHP - 2002 - Carol Stream, IL
Uncommitted

He’s a good looking 6’6” pitcher with smooth actions and an easy mid 80’s fastball that touches 87. He really knows how to pitch and has an effective change-up. There is a lot more in him and he will be even better down the road.

Trevor Carpenter  RHP - 2002 - Ft. Wayne, IN
Uncommitted

Trevor had upper 80’s velocity on his fastball and a good curve. We have seen him throw harder in the past and his command is sharp. He also showed some good hitting skills, hitting some of the toughest pitchers at the showcase.

Gerard Gause  IF - 2002 - Des Moines, IA
Uncommitted

We liked what we saw in Gause. He ran a 7.06 in the 60 and looks much faster than that. He showed very good actions in the infield. He has a strong, quick arm across the diamond and has very quick reactions. He hit some good shots, with wood, against good pitching.

Derek Feldkamp  RHP - 2002 - Adrian, MI
Michigan

Feldkamp displayed some excellent pitching ability with a mid to high 80’s fastball as high as 88mph. He has been higher on the gun, but he made the trip after a football game. His change-up looks like a plus pitch and he had no trouble getting outs.

Neil Gross  RHP - 2002 - Willowbrook, IL
Uncommitted

Neil is a good looking pitcher with a loose arm and an 85 mph fastball. He has a plus, projectable frame and has a good working curve. His change-up was also good and he threw both off-speed pitches in any count.

Lukas Kidd  SS - 2002 - Michigan City, IN
Uncommitted

Has some excellent actions in the field and at the plate. Made some of the tough plays look easy and displayed some arm strength from 3B. He also hit well, especially from the right side. He has a good, athletic body.

Matthew Lane  RHP - 2002 - Cologne, MN
University of Washington

A 6 foot 8 pitcher with a low effort delivery and 4 pitches. He threw mid 80’s and his change-up was the best of his of-speed stuff. OK slider and he changed his look periodically. Oh yea, he’s a lefty batter who hit one over the right field wall.

Mike Mogard  OF - 2002 - Marshalltown, IA
Uncommitted

We like the way Mogard plays. He ran a 7.04 in the 60, threw well from the outfield, showed good line drive hitting ability in BP and then kept hitting against live pitching. He has good bat-speed and plays hard.

Jacob Hansen  LHP - 2002 - Council Bluffs, IA
Uncommitted

Jake has excellent pitching ability and an easy arm. He was 82-85 and we have seen him as high as 88 before. His fastball has life and his curveball has good spin. He threw 86 from the outfield and is an athlete.

J.R. Towles  C - 2002 - Crosby, TX
North Central Texas College

Was the best defensive catcher at the showcase. Showed quick footwork, good blocking skills and played for keeps. He popped a 1.98 but with a shorter arm action will be better. Ran well for a catcher and he will get a lot stronger too.

Daniel Rudisill  C - 2002 - Sandy, UT
Uncommitted

Had a 2.0 pop and threw to the bag. Quickness getting out from the plate and good arm action. Solid receiving skills and runs good too. Hit some of the top pitchers and showed some serious line drive ability.

Joseph Trinkle  RHP - 2002 - Albia, IA
Uncommitted

Big, strong pitcher with a 84-86 fastball. Has strong legs and shows good depth with his curveball. If he can speed up his body and arm with his change-up, he might have a good 3rd pitch too. He also ran a 7.2 in the 60 and can hit.

Drew Dillingham  RHP - 2002 - Asheville, NC
Uncommitted

On the mound he threw with a low effort and he has a good frame and long arms that produced nice movement on his fastball and a commanding change-up. Hit a couple good ones and showed some power with the bat.

2003 Top Prospects

Chad Billingsley  RHP - 2003 - Defiance, OH
South Carolina

Was one of the best overall pitchers at the event. Showed low 90’s velocity and topped out at 93. Hard Slider and plus curveball. He has an extremely fast arm and a solid build. Was 93 from the outfield, ran a 6.86 and hit a few hard liners to all fields. Top prospect!

Ryan Sweeney  OF - 2003 - Cedar Rapids, IA
San Diego State

Showed big-time power in BP, putting several out of the park. Has quick hands, fast bat-speed and a good looking swing. Was 88 from the OF and 89 on the mound. Good low 80’s change-up too. Definitely needs to be looked at both ways.

Adam Miller  RHP - 2003 - Knoxville, IA
Indian Hills CC

Strong pitcher threw in the high 80’s and touched 91mph. Has a good 80mph change and a curveball that was working well against some big hitters. He plays 3B fairly well and swings a wood bat with some power.

Robbie Wooley  RHP - 2003 - Kokomo, IN
University of Cincinnati

Tough pitcher who goes right after batters with an 86-88 fastball and 3 other pitches. Has good mound presence and an aggressive style about him. This was after he played in his high school football game the night before. We know there is even more in him.

Jason Sullivan  RHP - 2003 - Joplin, MO
Crowder College

Threw good from the outfield and has a solid build. On the mound he had good action on his fastball that sat in the 85-87mph range. Uses his hips well and had a super curveball. Drew some attention with his bat as well.

Gary Arndt  SS - 2003 - Racine, WI
Uncommitted

Good looking actions in the field and at the plate. Runs well and has good arm strength from SS or 3B. He has good bat-speed and a line drive swing.

Tommy Sadler  OF - 2003 - Cedar Rapids, IA
Mesa CC

Ran a 6.9 in the 60 and played the outfield well. Showed a quick bat with solid line drive results and was aggressive in every aspect of his game.

Lucas Lawver  C - 2003 - Joplin, MO
Uncommitted

He showed us good receiving ability with some difficult to catch pitchers. Had a 1.92 pop time and threw 80mph to 2nd. Good defensive catcher and plays hard. Looks pretty good at the plate, too.

Joe Kistler  OF - 2003 - Ossian, IN
Uncommitted

A strong fast runner with 7 flat 60 speed and better on the bases. Threw good from the outfield. His #1 tool is the bat, he can hit!

Free Agents Top Prospects

Jhonathan Figueroa  LHP - Free Agents - Tampa, FL

We have seen Figueroa many times. Once again he was impressive in Cedar Rapids. His velocity was as usual upper 80s to 91. The life on his fastball was outstanding. His breaking ball is devastating at times. His changeup is improving also. He has plus life and good command. High school catchers have trouble handling him.
