2006 South Underclass Showcase






2008 Top Prospects

Austin Atwell - OF - 2008 - Sachse, TX
The top player at the event and he did it all. 6.78-60, 88 from the OF, great BP, and went 6-7 with 5 SB and 4 R in game action. Atwell has great upside.

Mark Grimm - LHP - 2008 - Atlanta, GA
Two-way prospect who was the best “pitcher” at the event. LHP up to 85 with good CB and plus control. Also went 3-6 at the plate with projectable power.

Ryan Akins - SS - 2008 - Flower Mound, TX
Live bodied athlete with present tools. 6.9-60 and has a quick bat and makes hard contact. Akins was also 86 on the mound.

Joey Hainsfurther - SS - 2008 - Dallas, TX
Athletic player with the best infield defensive actions at the event. He has plus range, hands, and feet, and hrew 84 across the IF and 77 from behind the plate with a 1.97 pop time. Hainsfurther went 3-6 in game action.

Zac Russell - C - 2008 - Bulverde, TX
Russell has a great catcher’s frame with present strength, and a very strong arm (77 C, 86 P) with a 1.93 pop time. His throws are accurate and through the bag. Also shows projectable power at the plate.

Michael Alonso - OF - 2008 - Little Rock, AR
Has present strength in body. Hit the only HR of the showcase and went 3-5 during the event.

Justin Couvillion - 2B - 2008 - Greenwell Springs, LA
Very steady player who has a solid all-around game. Plus range defensively and makes all the plays. Couvillion was 4-6 in game action.

Casey Jackson - C - 2008 - Bridge City, TX
He has present strength in his body. Showed raw power and projects as a middle of the order run producer at the next level.

Blair Kessler - OF - 2008 - Boerne, TX
Athletic player with a live body. Ran a 6.9-60, and has a quick bat with good power projection. Kessler had 2 extra base hits in the games.

Chris Lewis - LHP - 2008 - Ennis, TX
Lewis is an athletic player who knows how to play the game, and is very instinctive. He is a two-way prospect with upside at the plate and on the mound.

Wesley Mercurio - OF - 2008 - Houston, TX
Good frame, and has two-way projection. Mercurio had some of the best raw power at the event that should develop.

Ben Mrachek - SS - 2008 - San Antonio, TX
Ben is an athletic player with very good actions in the MIF. Has great range and made all the plays, and went 3-6 in game action.

Jonathan Perez - RHP - 2008 - San Antonio, TX
Perez is wiry strong with athleticism. Perez competes and has baseball instincts. He threw 87 from the OF and 84 on the mound. Hits with authority and has a quick bat. 3IP, 1H, 0R, 5K

Jordy Snikeris - C - 2008 - Austin, TX
Solid behind the plate, but his bat separates him from the rest. Snikeris went 5-6 with 3 RBI and a double in game action.

Robert Van Cour - OF - 2008 - San Antonio, TX
Van Cour is a great athlete with tools. He ran a 6.78-60, threw 82 OF, and 84 on the mound. Vam Cour struck out 8 in 3 IP with zip on his fastball through the zone.

Taylor Wax - RHP - 2008 - Prairieville, LA
Wax pitched 3 innings of no-hit ball while striking out 3. 81 mph FB with projectability, and threw 85 from the OF. Wax also went 3-6 in game action.

Christopher Wisdom - RHP - 2008 - Channelview, TX
He was very good on the mound with an 82 mph FB. Wisdom allowed only 1 H in 3 IP with 5 K. He is a strike thrower who keeps the ball down in the zone.


2009 Top Prospects

Slade Heathcott - OF - 2009 - Texarkana, TX
The top ranked ’09 at the showcase. Plus arm strength from the OF and he can go get it. He went 3-7 at the plate, and 2IP, 1H, 0R, 5 K on the mound. Heathcott has great upside both ways.

Evan Frazar - SS - 2009 - Bellaire, TX
Athletic 2009 prospect with live actions defensively. 7.00-60 and threw 82 across IF, and he stole 3 bases in game action.

Dillon Buhrkuhl - RHP - 2009 - Flint, TX
2009 prospect with present strength and an XL frame. He touched 84 with a good breaking ball. 3IP, 2H, 0R, 4 K

Jeff Spillane - RHP - 2009 - Houston, TX
He is a 2009 pitcher with an extra large frame, and has a projectable body and velocity. Has pitchability and throws CB for strikes. 81 mph FB, 4IP, 9K, 4H, 0R.

Drew Abernathy - LHP - 2009 - Greenwood, LA
Lean and projectable lefty with natural cut on his fastball, projectable velocity. 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 4 K
