1-Cardinal vs. 2-Columbia Blue Highlights

5/31/2014

William Sanchez (2016, RHP, Keys Gate Charter) struck out four batters over his three inning outing. He reached 82 mph with his fastball and was able to locate a sharp breaking ball and changeup.

Christian Menendez (2016, 1B/RHP, Bishop Verot) tossed four scoreless innings for the Cardinal squad, surrendering just three hits and striking out five along the way. He relied heavily on his moving 80-82 mph fastball, attacking hitters in the lower quadrants of the zone.

Scott Bellina (2014, RHP, IMG Academy) proved to be the most dominant pitcher of the game, lighting up the radar guns at 86-88 mph in the early part of his outing. He settled a little lower velocity wise but continued to dominate. His mid 70s curveball was a swing and miss, above average offering, helping him rack up 8 strikeouts over his outings. He did not allow a hit.

Giovanni Digiacomo (2018, LHP, Naples) looked like a young arm to keep an eye on. He allowed only one hit over three frame, allowing no runs and striking out five. He reached 74 mph with his fastball and flashed a 65 mph downer curveball with good depth.

Xavier Edwards (2018, SS, Trinity Christian Academy) continues to look like a player to watch. Although young, Edwards has standout tools. He made what was one of the plays of the year in events we've seen, ranging far up the middle at second base and making what looked like an impossible play from his knees to complete the out. His defensive presence is notable.

Jonathan Cosme (2015, OF, Gulf Coast) tripled and singled in what was one of the game's more eye opening performances in a contest dominated by pitching. He lined a ball hard to the right center field gap and later legged out in infield single. His compact left-handed swing is one to keep a close eye on, as his good speed.

William Bowden (2015, RHP/OF, Heritage) had a good day on both sides of the baseball, picking up two hits, including a hard opposite field single to left field. He also tossed three scoreless frames, reaching 83 mph with his fastball and allowing just one hit and striking out five along the way. It was an impressive showing as a two-way prospect.
