College Park , Md., Sept. 30-Oct. 1, 2006
TOP 12 PROSPECTS
Class of 2007/2008
COMPILED BY JEFF SIMPSON
1. George Piccirilli, c, Osbourn Park HS, Manassas, Va. (2008). A top notch defensive catcher, Piccirilli showed off a big arm and quick release behind the plate--1.95 second pop time to take home the honor of top prospect. At the plate, he is a line-drive type hitter with quick hands. He should be a highest-level college prospect.
2. Rocco Gondek, of, Glastonbury HS, South Glastonbury, Conn. (2007). With a tremendous build (6-3, 200) and several solid tools, Rocco was the most projectable prospect at the showcase. He shows a big arm in the outfield at 85 mph and has plenty of raw power potential at the plate.
3. Ryan Stoffko, rhp, Benedictine HS, Broadview Heights, Ohio (2007). The showcase’s top pitching prospect, Stoffko has a great pitcher’s body (6-4, 190) and a good assortment of off-speed pitches. He really knows how to pitch and could easily be throwing in the upper 80s by this time next year.
4. Johann Knee, 3b, Riverdale Baptist HS, Montgomery Village, Md. (2008). Knee was very impressive during the showcase, driving the ball hard from gap to gap consistently. He has very solid infield tools and should be a solid contributor at the plate in college.
5. Bret Williams, 1b, Oakton HS, Fairfax Station, Va. (2008). Williams showed a big lefthanded bat at the showcase with quick hands and good raw power. At 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds, he has the tools needed to be a power-hitting first baseman in college.
6. Hugh Wilhelm, 3b, Ithaca (N.Y.) HS (2007). Wilhelm is a very strong defensive third baseman with a quick release and strong arm. At the plate, he has good power potential and should be a solid third baseman at the next level.
7. Nicholas Lundstrom, ss-2b, East Providence HS, East Providence, R.I. (2007). While only 5-ffot-7 and 140 pounds, Lundstrom showed a game much bigger than his size suggests. He can really swing the bat with very quick hands, and produces hard line-drive contact all over the field. In the field, he has clean actions and a strong arm with a quick release. He can also touch 84 mph on the mound and has solid two-way potential in college.
8. Jonathan Slattery, ss-2b, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel HS, Mississauga, Ontario (2007). Slattery was the fastest player at the showcase with a 6.90 second showing in the 60, and showed solid tools across the board. He is a fast-twitch player who profiles well as a second baseman at the next level.
9. Taylor Harrington, 3b, IMG Academy, Rumford, R.I. (2007). Taylor was one of the soundest all-around players at the showcase. At third base, he showed a strong arm and quick release. He also is very strong and showed consistent hard, line-drive contact at the plate.
10. Chris Lenivy, of, Tunkhannock Area HS, Tunkhannock, Pa. (2007). Lenivy had a great workout at the showcase, throwing 85 mph from the outfield and running a 7.05 second time in the 60. Both his speed and arm strength enable Chris to grade out as an above-average outfielder at the next level.
11. Grant Nolan, rhp, Lake Braddock HS, Burke, Va. (2007). With a 6-foot-4, 195 pound frame, Nolan has an ideal pitcher’s body. He has good raw stuff on the mound with a quick arm and should only throw harder in the future. His tight 10-to-4 curveball rates as a plus pitch.
12. James Harlan, 1b-lhp, Mahopac HS, Mahopac, N.Y. (2007). Harlan is a projectable two-way player with a good bat and solid stuff (83 mph on the mound). At 6-foot-3, he has room to fill out and could be a strong lefthanded bat at the next level.
