TOP PROSPECTS

The top prospects who attended Perfect Game’s West Showcase in San Diego, from June 10-11.

CLASS OF 2007

1. Josh Osich, lhp, Bishop Kelly HS, Boise, Idaho. Lean and projectable lefty at 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds with present arm strength up to 91 mph. Very athletic and hit a home run during a showcase game.

2. Kyle O'Campo, rhp, Poly HS, Corona, Calif. Polished 6-foot-3, 185-pound pitcher with present arm strength up to 91 mph. Repeats his delivery well, and has the makings of a plus curveball.

3. Bobby Buckner, ss-3b, Boise (Idaho) HS. Lean and athletic switch-hitter who centers the ball well from both sides. Solid infielder with present arm strength. Son of ex-big leaguer Bill Bucker.

4. Kirk Dehler, rhp-ss, Billings West HS, Billings, Mon. Lean and athletic pitcher at 6-foot-1, 185 pounds who was up to 89, and showed very good pitchability. Smooth fielder with good footwork and a line-drive swing.

5. Bryce Tafelski, c, Santa Ynez HS, Los Olivos, Calif. Physical catcher at 6-foot, 185 pounds with a strong arm, good pop times; also receives well. Has strength in swing with good leverage at contact and projectable pop.

6. Caleb Hurst, rhp, Fred C. Beyer HS, Modesto, Calif. Upper 80s pitcher with great pitchability. Used a sharp breaking ball and fastball to strike out all nine batters he faced.

7. Logan Spiers, of-3b, Mountain Ridge HS, Glendale, Ariz. Physical player with good speed for his size, and arm strength from the outfield at 89 mph. Good bat speed with projectable power.

8. Stephen Johnson, ss-rhp, Poway (Calif.) HS. Fluid defender in the middle of the diamond with soft hands and arm strength. Bat speed with pop in his bat. Fastball up to 85.

9. Stephen Triolo, rhp-1b, Patrick Henry HS, San Diego, Calif. Strong and durable pitcher at 6-foot-2, 205 pounds with a very heavy fastball that topped out at 88 mph. Has a good three-pitch mix. Pop in his bat as well.

10. James Mahler, rhp, Jordan HS, Sandy, Utah. Strong righthanded pitcher at 6-foot-6 and 225 pounds. His fastball was up to 87 mph from a good downhill plane. Has projectable velocity and ability to spin the curveball.

CLASS OF 2008-2009

1. Brent Warren, of-lhp, Xavier HS, Robins, Iowa (2008). At 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds, he is a high level two-way prospect. Runs well with arm strength, and can drive the ball at the plate. Mid-80s velocity with pitchability.

2. Jiovanni Mier, ss-rhp, Bonita HS, La Verne, Calif. (2009) Smooth defensive shortstop with a strong arm. Good swing and makes consistent contact. Fastball up to 85 and is aggressive on the mound.

3. Tommy Cheek, ss-rhp, Cathedral Catholic HS, Escondido, Calif. (2009). Does everything well defensively, and threw 86 mph across the infield. Fastball up to 84 with a hard curveball as well.

4. Colin Hofmann, of, St. Augustine HS, San Diego (2008). Athletic outfielder with speed (6.80 in the 60) and arm strength (83 mph). Uses the whole field and runs the bases very well.

5. Kyle Skipworth, 3b-c, Rubidoux HS, Riverside, Calif. (2008). Great frame at 6-foot-3, 205 pounds with athleticism. Soft hands defensively and made some great plays. Good bat speed with power projection.
