South Underclass Showcase - Top Prospects

1. Brad Dydalewicz is a 2008 LHP/OF from Austin, TX, with a 6'1", 175 lb.

Dydalewicz completely separated himself from the rest of the top prospects by pitching at 86-88 mph from the left side, with two different types of sharp breaking balls, a deceptive change up and a feel for pitching.  He has a frenetic, multi-part delivery, but he also has top of the line talent.

2. Travis Smith is a 2007 RHP from Austin, TX, with a 6'3", 170 lb.

Smith is a tall and projectable pitcher with easily the best arm action and leverage to the plate of any showcase prospect.  He was 83-85 mph with a hard spinning 69 mph curveball, and both pitches are going to keep getting better, maybe much, much better.

3. David Wright is a 2008 SS/C/P from Aledo, TX, with a 6'1", 176 lb.

Wright can play every position on the field well, including pitch at 82-83 mph, and shows excellent baseball instincts and leadership ability along with his baseball tools.  He only caught a few innings but we think he is a high ceiling prospect at that position.

4. Ross Bruns is a 2007 LHP/OF from Houston, TX, with a 6'0", 170 lb.

Bruns grades out very similarly as both an outfielder and left handed pitcher.  He touches 87 mph from the left side as a pitcher, and combines both an excellent left handed bat and very good speed as an outfielder.  He's also a hustling, high performance type of athlete.

5. Terrance Jackson is a 2007 LHP/CF from Rowlett, TX, with a 6'1", 160 lb.

Jackson is raw tooled but was probably the best pure athlete at the showcase.  He can touch 85 mph off the mound and 90 mph from the outfield, run under 7.00 and has very good bat quickness for his age and strength.  A high ceiling talent who likes to play.

6. Michael Fuda is a 2007 MIF from Katy, TX, with a 5'11", 165 lb.

Fuda is a very projectable young athlete who can just fly, running 6.52 in the 60 and showing game impacting acceleration on the bases.  He's a good fielder who should develop some power as a hitter as well.

7. Ryan Akins is a 2008 SS/P from Flower Mound, TX, with a 5'11", 160 lb.

Akins started as a freshman at shortstop for nationally ranked Flower Mound HS.  He's a very gifted athlete with arm strength, smooth actions and very good speed.  He's raw with the bat now, but has plenty of time to develop that part of his game.

8. Lance Marvel is a 2007 C/OF from Texarkana, Arkansas, with a 6'2", 190 lb.

Marvel combines speed (6.98), size, and strength at a premium position; catcher.  He has plenty of arm strength for the position and hits the ball consistently hard at the plate.

9. Jason Pearce is a 2007 RHP/OF from Sachse, TX, with a 6'7", 178 lb.

Pearce defines tall and lanky and has size 17 feet.  He has a long arm action that generates an 84-86 mph fastball that should steadily increase in velocity.  He has a nice change up, and solid breaking ball.

10. Rudy Garcia is a 2007 3B from Corpus Christi, TX, with a 6'2", 200 lb.

Garcia is presently strong and plays a solid third base.  His big tool is his bat.  Garcia has power to all fields and a simple, efficient swing that generates consistent hard contact.

11. Brennan Flick is a 2007 RHP from Morgan City, LA, with a 6'1", 180 lb.

Flick has a good pitcher's frame, and has a quick arm on the mound.  His fastball topped out at 87 mph with good running action.  Flick has projectable velocity with good upside.
