2005 Unsigned Seniors Showcase Top
Prospect List
1 - David Del
Guerico - OF - Alonso HS -
Tampa, FL - 6'2/189
Del Guerico
was the top prospect at the Showcase. Hes a very athletic 6-2, 190
lbs and runs a 7.0 60 and throws 90 mph from the outfield. Del
Guerico showed us college level bat speed, hit well in the game and
played with hustle and emotion.
2 - Chris
Lopez - IF - Belen Jesuit
HS - Miami, FL - 5'7/150
Lopez has
been a high profile player for some time but may suffer in some eyes
because of his height: 5-7. Hes a very good athlete with top
level speed and arm strength and some pop in his bat. It looked
like Lopez was pressing at the showcase but hes excelled at many
events for us in the past.
3 - Brandon Barrington
- OF - Haines City HS - Haines City, FL - 5'11/160
Barrington
ran 6.53 on one of the slowest tracks weve ever run the 60 on, so
he can fly. He also showed college level arm strength in the
outfield and good instincts and jumps on defense. Raw swing
mechanics and a lack of upper body strength hold back his hitting
right now but he shows potential.
4 - Matt
Foisy - SS-RHP - Olympia
HS - Orlando, FL - 5'11/170
Foisy and
Joshua Burch were very similar players, good athletes with middle
infield actions, sound offensive approaches and plenty of arm
strength. Foisy threw 85 mph off the mound, too.
5 - Joshua
Burch - SS - Shasta HS -
Redding, CA - 6'1/180
Burch had
pure shortstop defensive actions on defense and made several nice
plays while showing good arm strength. His bat played well, too.
Burch came all the way from Northern California to Florida to show
us he could play college baseball.
6 - Heath
Sharp - C - Lincoln County
- Fayetteville, TN - 6'3/193
Big time
catchers body at 6-3, 190. Sharp has advanced defensive skills and
college level arm strength and pop times. He looks like he can hit
a bit, too, and catchers are in short supply at the college level.
7 - Calvin
White - LHP - Excel HS -
Monroeville, AL - 5'10/185
Were told
that White ranks high on the all-time Alabama prep strikeout lists
and we can see why. He spots a live fastball at 81-84 mph and has a
sharp, late curveball at 70 mph along with a nice change up and
knows how to use them all. White struck out 8 of 10 hitters for
us. There are an untold number of Division I schools he could pitch
for in our opinion.
8 - Dustin Proctor - C - East Columbus
HS - Whiteville, NC - 5'11/200
Good strength throughout his body with
athletic ability. Ran a 6.97 sixty and showed good speed on the
bases. Proctor has good arm strength behind the plate. His
athleticism and quickness helped produce several sub 2.00 pop times.
He hits balls hard to all fields and shows present raw power.
9 - James
Martinez - RHP - American
Heritage - American Heritage, FL - 6'1/165
Martinez is a
projectable 6-1, 165 lb pitcher who looks like he should keep
improving. He threw consistently in the 85-86 mph area with very
good sinking life and had the makings of some good secondary
pitches. Along with Calvin White, Martinez was the most college
ready pitcher at the showcase in terms of present skills and
ability.
10 - Matt
Boyd - RHP - Warren
Central HS - Bowling Green, KY - 6'4/175
Boyd is a
very projectable athlete at 6-4, 175 lbs and showed during workouts
that he could run and throw at a high level as an outfielder. He
took the mound later and threw 83-85 mph with a good arm action and
looks like a high 80s thrower in the future when he adds more
strength.
11 - Jacob
Brown - LHP - North
Harford HS - Forest Hill, MD - 6'2/190
Brown has a
strong build at 6-2, 195 and threw 83-85 mph from the left side. He
also showed power potential at the plate.
12 - Ryan
Carnley - IF/RHP - Newsome
HS - Valrico, FL - 6'1/180
Someone has
to get the 6-1 Carnley on the mound. He didnt pitch at the
Showcase but was 89 mph during workouts with a very live and loose
arm.
13 - Zach
Zupan - LHP - Xavier HS -
Haddam, CT - 5'11/175
Zupan is a
southpaw from the Northeast who threw in the 82-84 mph range with
good command and secondary stuff. Were sure there are plenty of
schools in that part of the country who could use this type of arm
from the left side.
14 - Chad Mills - RHP -
William T Dwyer HS - Palm Beach Gardens,
FL - 6'1/185
Quick arm on the mound with good
mechanics. The ball jumps out of his hand with present velocity and
more to come. He also has tight breaking CB with good bite. Mills
also showed his arm strength from the Outfield and has solid speed.
He is a good two-way player with upside.
15 - Kahmari Leonard - OF - Miramar HS -
Miramar, FL - 5'8/160
Great Speed with a very quick first
step. Leonard has a strong arm form the Outfield and has great
range. Leonard causes havoc on the bases and makes things happen
both offensively and defensively. He is a skilled bunter with good
bunt control.
