2005 ACADEMIC SHOWCASE TOP
PROSPECT LIST
2006
1. Stephen Cardullo - 3B -
St. Thomas Aquinas HS -
Coral Springs, FL - 6'0/190
Cardullo is present strong at 6-0,
200 and can really hit the ball with wood. He hits so well
that it's easy to forget that he is a sub-7.00 runner with
college level arm strength and quickness on defense, too.
2. William Hirsch - RHP-OF -
Nansemond River HS -
Suffolk, VA - 6'0/175
Hirsch is a very athletic pitcher
with a heavy 87-89 mph sinking fastball and sharp curveball.
He dominated hitters at the showcase, then turned around and
showed he was a power hitting outfield prospect as well.
3. Alex Cobb - RHP -
Vero Beach HS - Vero Beach, FL -
6'1/175
Cobb was one of the most
projectable players at the event, with a smooth, easy delivery
that produced a 85-88 mph fastball and mid-70's curveball.
He's a good athlete who can hit when he's not on the mound.
4. Paul McClintock - OF -
Walton HS - Marietta, GA - 6'3/190
McClintock is a left handed
hitting outfielder with a solid overall collection of tools.
There really is no weakness in his game if he keeps hitting
the way he did in Fort Myers.
5. Steve Kalush - RHP - Aragon
HS - San Mateo, CA - 5'11/175
Kalush is a very polished pitcher
from California with 3 solid pitches. His fastball is 84-87
and his change up is excellent. He should have instant
college level success.
6. Dustin Huguley - C -
Lake Wales HS - Lake Wales, FL -
6'0/190
Huguley is a power hitting catcher
with good defensive skills and a hustling attitude. He also
throws 88 off the mound with a sharp 74 mph curveball.
7. Brice Kelly - IF -
St. Stephens HS - Austin, TX -
6'2/185
Kelly is a 6-2 middle infielder
with a very good balance of tools. If his bat continues to
develop, he could become a big time prospect.
8. Brett Petigrow - OF -
Coral Springs HS - Coral
Springs, FL - 5'9/155
Petigrow fits the leadoff profile
well as a 5-9 left handed hitting speedster with some present
strength. He's also an excellent defensive outfielder with
pro level arm strength.
9. Eric Valdes - OF -
The First Academy HS - Altamonte
Springs, FL - 5'10/180
Valdes is a 5-10 left handed
hitting outfielder with excellent hitting fundamentals and a
powerful bat. It's hard to believe that he won't be a top
level college hitter down the road.
10. Matt Kallaoun - 3B -
Lassiter HS - Marietta, GA
- 6'2/192
Kallaoun is a present strong 6-2
third baseman with a good balance of baseball tools. He also
throws 86 mph off the mound and could further develop there as
a prospect.
11. Michael Hunter - RHP -
King HS - Corpus Christi,
TX - 6'4/195
Would be ranked much higher had he
pitched at this event. We have seen Hunter consistently in the
upper 80s at previous events.
Underclassmen
1. Cody Allen (2007) - RHP-3B
- Boone HS -
Orlando, FL - 6'1/190
Allen would rate as the top
prospect at the event as both a pitcher and as a power hitting
third baseman. He throws 90 mph on the mound with little
effort and his mid-70's curveball is a hammer. Allen is a top
all around athlete with a very high ceiling.
2. Raiko Alfonso (2008) - SS -
Key West - Key West, FL - 5'10/160
Alfonso defines smoothness at
shortstop with excellent balance and soft hands. He's a
switch-hitter with good bat speed from both sides of the
plate.
3. Evan Chambers (2007) - OF -
Lakeland HS - Lakeland, FL
- 5'10/195
Chambers is an extra strong junior
outfielder with very good tools. He has excellent speed
(6.73) and will show you plus power at the plate at times.
4. Stuart Tapley (2007) - IF -
Boone HS - Orlando, FL - 5'10/188
No player performed better at the
Showcase than Tapley. He's an aggressive player with very
good bat speed who showed the ability to make the great play
in the middle of the field.
5. Ian MacGeorge (2007) -
3B-OF - Bishop Moore HS -
Maitland, FL - 6'4/175
MacGeorge is still very slender at
6-4, 175 but can swing the bat with leverage and authority.
He's a good athlete who projects best in the outfield.
