2005 Sunshine West Top Prospects

 

2006

 

1- Jason Stoffel- RHP- Agoura HS, Agoura Hills, CA- 6'2"/195- The best pitcher at the event.  He sat at 88-89 and touched 90.  He is big and strong with a quick arm.  Has a heavy fastball and keeps everything down in the zone.

 

2- Thomas Pham- SS-Durango HS, Las Vegas, NV- 6'2"/185- Pham has great defensive actions with a strong arm (91IF).  Attacks pitches in the strike zone with plus bat speed.  Pham makes thins look easy.

 

3- Jeff Van Doornum- IF- Huntington Beach HS, Huntington Beach, CA- 6'2"/170- Has a very quick bat and hit hard line drive after hard line drive during the showcase games.  He has raw power with a projectable body.  Strong arm at 3B and made all the plays.

 

4- Matthew Jaimes- 3B- Chino HS, Ontario, CA-6'0"/185- Showed a quick arm in the OF with arm strength and good actions.  Has raw power with very good bat speed and the ball jumps when he makes contact.

 

5- Casey Haerther- 1B/RHP- Chaminade HS, Chatsworth, CA- 6'3"/215- Showed the best power at the event.  Haerther has good bat speed and will go the other way with the pitch and still hit with authority.  Hit 6 HR in BP, and hit a ball 400+ feet in a game.

 

6- Andrew Tonner- OF/P/1B- Brophy College Prep, Phoenix, AZ- 6'5"/190- Has a very impressive body.  Tonner has raw power especially to his pull side.  He only ran a 7.44, but showed very good range in the OF.

 

7- Chase Tigert- RHP/1B- Quartz Hill HS, Lancaster, CA- 6'5"/200-  He was 87-88 and touched 90.  Also has good bat speed and showed raw power.  He has a strong body and is very projectable.

 

8- Joseph Inzone- OF- Steele Canyon HS, Jamul, CA- 6'0"/175-  Inzone can do just about everything.  He showed arm strength (89OF) with good speed (7.03 on a slow track).  Has good bat speed and stays back on the ball well with a line drive swing plane.

 

9- Reid Suitor- RHP- Torrey Pines HS, San Diego, CA- 6'3"/190- He has great stuff!  He dominated hitters with an 83-85 FB and a nasty splitter at 78-79.  We later found out Suitor was pitching for his third day in a row and we are sure he has more velocity when his arm is fresh. 

 

10- Jarrod Freeman- RHP/1B- Alta HS, Sandy, UT- 6'3"/190- Has a loose and easy arm with projection.  Freeman was threw an easy 86 with arm side life.  Also has a nasty breaking ball, and very quick feet on his pick off move.

 

11- Michael Anderson- OF- Los Osos HS, Etiwanda, CA- 6'2"/180- Very athletic and ran a 6.7 sixty.  Anderson gets great rotation in his swing and has raw power. 

 

12- D.J. Henson- RHP/C/1B- El Capitan HS, Lakeside, CA- 6'4"/230- Threw a perfect inning at the event with an easy 86 mph fastball with more velocity in his arm.  Good secondary pitches as well with depth to curveball and good arm speed on change.

 

13- David Fry- OF- Bishop Gorman HS, Las Vegas, NV- 6'0"/175- Athletic OF with fluid actions.  Showed good bat speed and had a solid approach at the plate. 

 

14- Nick Salahub- 1B/RHP- Deer Valley HS, Phoenix, AZ- 6'8"/230- Huge body with good coordination.  Salahub has very good bat speed and hit some lasers to his pull side.  He has great upside and potential.

 

15- Jimmy Duffy- C/3B- Silverado HS, Las Vegas, NV- 6'2"/205- Good arm strength and pop times.  Duffy has a good hand load at the plate with power potential.  He hit some bullets to the left side in the showcase games.

 

16- Andrew Fowler- C- The Bishop's School, Rancho Santa Fe, CA- 6'2"/205- Strong bodied catcher.  Very good bat speed with raw power who hits the ball hard.

 

17- Mark Leslie- MIF/3B- Vista HS, Vista, CA- 5'6"/155- He plays one way, hard!  He got HBP multiple times, but made pitchers pay with his quick bat and speed on the bases.  Leslie is a guy you would love to have on your team. 

 

18- Josh Powers- C- Elk Grove HS, Santee, CA- 6'3"/165- Powers is a good receiver behind the plate with arm strength and good pop times.  Has power potential with the bat. 

 

19- Chad Gross- 3B/RHP- Claremont HS, Claremont, CA- 6'5"/220- A big and strong kid with very good raw power.  He hit some bombs in BP.  He also topped out at 85 on the mound.

 

20- Mathew Stein- RHP/OF- Flintridge Prep, Sunland, CA- 5'10"/175- Has good hands at the plate with solid bat speed.  Stein topped out at 86 with good arm speed, and mixed in a very sharp breaking ball at 78.

1- Garrett Nash-MIF/OF-Jordan HS, Draper, UT- 5'11"/175- His game starts with speed.  Nash ran a 6.37 and showed great game quickness.  Switch hitter with bat speed, and some pop from the right side.  Also threw 85 off the mound.

 

2- Curtis Casali- C- New Canaan HS, New Canaan, CT- 6'3"/190- Popped a 1.91 during a showcase game and threw out several base stealers with his quick release and arm strength.  He shows good bat speed and the ability to hit line drives to all fields.

 

3- Courtney Morgan-SS- Mission Bay HS, San Diego, CA- 5'10"/165- Morgan was coming off the flu and still ran a 6.98 and threw 83IF with great actions defensively.  Has good bat speed and uses the whole field.  Morgan has great baseball instincts.

 

4- Jonny Ray Talley-C- Carlsbad HS, Oceanside, CA- 6'3"/220- Has a big, strong frame.  He has plus bat speed and makes solid contact with strength in his swing.  Talley has a strong arm.

 

5- Zach Jones-C/3B- Jordan HS, Draper, UT- 5'11"/165- He does everything well.  Strong arm, quick release, great blocking skills, very good bat speed, and makes solid contact.  Zach played every position during the showcase, including pitcher.

 

6- Michael Smith- RHP/3B- Rancho Buena Vista HS, Vista, CA- 6'3"/165- Has clean arm action with great projectability.  Topped out at 86 mph, and should be 90+ before graduating.

 

7- Remington Wilson- C/RHP- Cottonwood HS, Sandy, UT- 5'11"/180- Wilson showed great arm strength behind the plate and on the mound.  He topped out at 88 on the mound with a smooth and easy delivery.

 

8- Sequoyah Stonecipher- OF- Mission Bay HS, San Diego, CA- Has an all-around solid game.  He has very good bat speed with strength in his swing.  Also shows a quick arm in the OF and is very accurate.

 

9- Stephen Johnson- MIF- Poway HS, Poway, CA- 6'1"/170- Johnson has very good actions defensively with solid arm strength.  He gets leverage in his swing and shows some raw power with a slight lift in his swing.

 

10- Dorsey Ek- RHP- Francis Parker HS, San Diego, CA- 6'5"/180- He has a projectable body with good arm speed.  Ek topped out at 86 from a high ¾ arm slot.

 

11- Kevin Silvett- C/IF/OF- Torrey Pines HS, Rancho Santa Fe, CA- 5'10"/185- Has a strong arm (80C) with a quick release and popped a 1.96 during the game.  Silvett has great blocking skills behind the plate. 

 

12- Cole Leonida- C- Grandview HS, Centennial, CO- 6'2"/185- He has a great frame with room to grow.  Leonida has a strong arm with a quick release.  Good approach at the plate with power potential.

 

13- Ryan Pineda- SS- Bonanza HS, Las Vegas, NV- 5'10"/150- Pineda has great actions defensively with solid arm strength and plus range.  He has a loose swing and the ball jumps off his bat.

 

14- John Stefanski- IF- Francis Parker HS, San Diego, CA- 5'8"/160- He has a good approach at the plate and is very disciplined.  Stefanski shows good bat speed with raw power.

 

15- Matt Harrison- SS/P/OF- Green Valley HS, Henderson, NV- 6'0"/165- Harrison has good actions defensively with solid arm strength.  He is a line drive hitter with a good approach.
