SUNSHINE CLASSIC UPDATE
10:00 am Friday Morning June 10th
Sunshine West and South look good to go.
NOTE: The Academic and Unsigned Senior
Showcases in Ft Myers are on as scheduled for next week.
Sunshine East
We have a large staff in Ft Myers and work closely
with the Lee County Parks Department. Ft Myers has received a lot of rain this
month and it looks like a lot of rain Friday with the Tropical Storm Arlene
passing. The forecast for the weekend looks much better with some hit and miss
showers.
We have arranged several options depending on the
weather. Our main objective is still to have everything go as scheduled.
However, we do expect possible delays as we work around the weather. We have
secured additional fields and indoor facilities just in case.
The Red Sox and Twins Complexes both have several
very nice covered cages. We have secured the Florida Gulf Coast University
facilities for additional indoor work, if needed.
Early registration is tonight 7-9PM at the Clarion
Hotel (formerly the Radisson) on Cleveland Ave. in Ft Myers. For those who are
unable to register early, please report to the Red Sox Complex at 9AM Saturday
Morning. The Red Sox 5-Plex is located at the very far East end of Edison Ave.
Often people make the mistake of stopping at the City of Palms Stadium, also on
Edison. The 5-Plex is about 5-6 minute drive east on Edison from the City of
Palms Stadium.
The actual schedule could change to work around
weather conditions, but please report to the 5-Plex at 9AM regardless. At that
time we will notify everyone if there are any changes.
It is vitally important that we do everything
possible to get this event in. Many are traveling a long distance and we need to
see these players. We plan to invite some of the very best to the PG National
at Turner Field (home of the Atlanta Braves) the following week. Last year we
actually had a couple players who attended one of the Sunshine events, then the
PG National and were selected to the Aflac All American Classic. So the Sunshine
events are very important in many ways.
We do understand that a few players could experience
travel difficulties because of bad weather in many parts of the nation. If this
occurs we will give full credit to those players who are unable to get to Ft
Myers. We do ask that people who run into these problems to please notify the
main office at 319-298-2923. This will allow us an advantage if we have to
change the workout or game schedules. Those who wish to transfer to another PG
event please do not contact our offices until June 22nd as most all
of our staff will be on the road until then.
