Academic Showcase Top Prospect List
1: Alexander Meschi RHP 6’0 200 R/R
Mission Viejo Mission Viejo, CA
Meschi is a
strongly built 6-0, 200 lb. right hander who throws in the upper
80’s with very little effort and very good command. His sharp 75
mph curveball is a strikeout pitch at this level. Meschi has
improved significantly since last year and has the ability to move
his stuff up to another level in the future.
2: Liam Ohlmann RHP 6’1 190 R/R
Choate Rosemary Hall Wallingford, CT
Ohlmann
overmatched the hitters at the Academic Showcase, striking out 8
straight hitters at one point with a fastball that topped out at 88
mph and a sharp 78-81 mph slider that no one even sniffed at. He
should develop into an excellent college pitcher.
3: Sean Baumann C/OF 6’0 185 R/R
Freedom Tampa, FL
Baumann is an
above average runner (6.75), especially for a catcher, and has
strong defensive tools. His performance at the Academic earned him
an invitation to the Perfect Game National.
4: Brad Secrist OF/1B 6’4 185 L/R
Joplin Joplin, MO
Secrist is a 6-4,
190 lb. corner player with some serious juice in his left handed
swing. The ball jumps off his bat. He’s a good athlete, too, and
will be able to contribute on defense.
5: Justin Handler MIF/C 5’9 165 R/R
Quince Orchard North Potomac, MD
Handler may have
been the most polished “present” hitter at the Showcase. He’s
strong in his hands and upper body and has a short, quick and
powerful swing. Handler’s defensive tools play at both third base
and behind the plate.
6: Tyler
Stohr RHP/OF 6’2 190 L/R Melbourne
Central Melbourne, FL
Stohr is a strong
6-2 right hander with a low ¾’s release point and excellent
extension out front. He threw in the mid 80’s while striking out 7
out of 9 hitters and flashed some good spin on his curveball as
well.
7: Zak Ratko 3B/1B 6’1 180 R/R
Pendleton Shorewood, IL
Ratko has grown
and got stronger since we last saw him and he’s still projectable.
He showed the best present power of any player at the Showcase and
he’s going to keep getting better.
8: Andrew Carraway RHP/3B 6’1 185 R/R
Walton Marietta, GA
Carraway has an
athletic and projectable 6-1, 185 lb. frame and three quality
pitches in a mid 80’s fastball, sharp 70 mph curveball and sinking
73 mph change up.
9: Daniel Watters MIF 6’0 170 R/R
Flower Mound Marcus Highland Village, TX
Watters has solid
tools across the board, with average speed, a good throwing arm and
good bat speed. He’s a plus makeup kid who can help a good college
program at any number of defensive positions.
10: Gus Fernandez MIF 5’10 152 L/R
Alonso Odessa, FL
Fernandez has
surprising bat speed and pop for a slenderly built 5-10 middle
infielder and drove the ball hard in batting practice and games. He
has nice infield actions and very good first step quickness in the
field and on the bases.
