2002 WWBA Northeast Qualifier - Top 20 Prospects

 

1  Chris Lubanski       03          OF         6’4/180 L/L        Kennedy-Kenrick         Schwenksville , PA

Lubanski’s running ability is well known.  We think his bat will end up being his best tool.  Possible very early pick next June.

 

2  David Winfree        03         3B/C     6’3/210 R/R       First Colonial        Virginia Beach , VA

Winfree is perhaps the top power hitting prospect in this year’s class.  We have seen him hit balls well over 400’ with wood.

 

3. Billy Muldowney       03        3B/P     6’1/190 R/R       East        West Chester , PA

Muldowney didn’t play or pitch a lot in this tournament, but we have seen him many times. He is an outstanding 2-way player with a great future on the mound. 90+ fastball and excellent breaking ball.

 

4  Andy Gale      04       RHP     6’5/205 R/R         Phillips Exeter      Durham , NH

Big 04 power pitcher, threw 90-91 with life in Pennsylvania .  Should end up one of the best in his class.

 

5  Clay Horn     03         LHP      6’6/220 L/L        Culpeper          Culpeper , VA

Threw mid 80s but there is a lot more in him.  Arm works nice and he is a horse.

 

6  Anthony Smith       03        LHP      6’0/185 L/L        John J Cross        Katonah, NY

Voted the event’s top pitcher.  90 mph lefty who fills up the zone.

 

7  Stephen Perry     03        RHP     6’0/195 R/R       St Marks       Milford , NH

As always Perry was 90-91 with good command.  He’s pretty consistent.

 

8  Billy Marn     03        1B/3B     6’3/185 R/R       Tabb        Yorktown , PA

Good body and plus bat speed.  Big time power potential. Very interesting!

 

9  Mike Cummings     03        RHP     6’3/215 R/R       Timber Creek        Sicklerville , NJ

Punched out 17 in one game with 84-86 fastball and outstanding curveball.  Can hit too!

 

10 Mike Zgorzelski       03       RHP     6’3/185 R/R       Shaker           Troy , NY

Very interesting, touched 90 and flashed a good breaking ball. Projects well.

 

11 Michael Cart          03     3B         6’4/200 R/R       King City                 King City, Ontario

Tournament MVP, he has looked good and hit well each time we’ve seen him.  He’s for real!

 

12 Andrew Casey         03       C         6’4/210 R/R       First Colonial        Virginia Beach , VA

Casey has surfaced as a top catching prospect.  Shows arm strength and wood bat power.

 

13 Jeremy Taylor          03          1B         6’5/200 R/L                                    Burlington , Ontario

Nice looking swing creates good bat speed. Shows power potential.

 

14 Craig Clark       03     LHP      6’1/180 L/L        Springford              Phoenixville , PA

85-87 with pitchability.  Very good college lefty.

 

15 Sean O’Brien      03       OF    6’1/180 R/R       Horace Greely        Chappaqua, NY

One of the top outfielders and hitters at the event.

 

16 Zachary Groh     03     RHP     6’2/190 R/R       Perkiomen Prep            Pennsburg, PA

85-87 fastball with some life.  Strong kid, but throws with some effort.

 

17 Mike Parker       03      INF        5’10/165          R/R      South                 Newton , MA

Good hitter and perhaps the best infield actions in the tournament.

 

18 John Nicolla     04      1B        6’2/210 R/R       Columbia                  Rensselaer , NY

Tough, strong kid with a power swing.  Only an 04 he could develop into a big time power guy.

 

19 Shane LeGare          03          1B/P     6’8/275 R/R       East Catholic   Willington , CT

Big guy throws mid 80s and shows a powerful swing with excellent bat speed.

 

20 Josiah Novak     03    C/1B        6’1/170 R/R          Kellam               Virginia Beach , VA

Good gap hitter, nice swing.  Projects, good baseball body.
