As always the PG Indoor Showcase was loaded with talent. The following players stood out at the event held in Perfect Games Indoor Training Facility.
| TOP 10 - 2002's |
| 1. Jeff Clement (02) |
6'1/190 |
C |
Marshalltown, IA |
| Clement threw pretty consistently around 89 mph. He even showed a good breaking ball and outstanding command, but WHO CARES! Clement is a potential early pick in this years draft as a catcher. As a hitter he ranks right up there at the top nationally. He did show why he is so highly ranked by absolutely crushing the ball against some very talented pitchers. Clement has signed with Southern Cal, but the draft will dictate his immediate future. |
| 2. Zach Hammes (02) |
6'7/220 |
RHP |
Iowa City, IA |
| Watch out for big Hammes. He throws 90 mph with hardly any effort. His breaking ball is devastating at times and his two-seamer looks like a bat breaker. He has grown a couple inches since last year. After the Indoor event we worked with his delivery a little and this Thursday he was up to 93 mph. We've had him ranked high on the national list for over a year now and he continues to get better. He has signed with the U of Iowa, but we think he will go good in the draft. |
| 3. James Peterson (02) |
6'1/215 |
OF |
Winterset, IA |
| Peterson is fun to watch swing the bat because he is every bit an attacker at the plate. He looked awesome at this event, in fact he and Clement both put on quite a display. They are two of the best hitting prospects to ever come out of Iowa. He does throw real well from the left side, but that bat should get him drafted in a good position. He has signed with Wichita State. |
| 4. Scott Mathieson (02) |
6'4/195 |
RHP |
Aldergrove, B.C. Canada |
| Mathieson has a chance to be extra special. His arm works great right now and he has that major league physique. He topped out in the 88-89 mph range at the Indoor with outstanding stuff and command. He looks much younger than most seniors and projects off the charts. We're not always right, but we feel pretty sure about this kid. |
| 5. Brad Brown (02) |
6'3/175 |
RHP |
Des Moines, IA |
| Brown was somewhat of a surprise to us. We knew he was pretty good, but he is at least a draft & follow candidate for this year's draft. He throws in the upper 80s with relative ease. He also swings a good bat. |
| 6. Greg Ladd (02) |
6'2/185 |
RHP |
Elkhorn, NE |
| Ladd is a pitcher we have seen a lot. He has a good body and throws mid 80s. More importantly he has an outstanding breaking ball and excellent command. We think he is a division one pitcher who could throw a lot of effective innings. If he were to put a couple of clicks on that fastball, he'd be draft material. He's that good! |
| 7. Cody Doonan (02) |
6'3/185 |
RHP |
Cedar Rapids, IA |
| Doonan could be the big surprise out of Iowa this year. He has been a 3 or 4 sport athlete and has realized he has the highest ceiling in baseball. He has the right body and a very good fluid arm. We've seen him as high as 89 and he topped out at 88 at the Indoor. |
| 8. Clay Richardson (02) |
6'3/195 |
P/OF |
St Charles, MO |
| Richardson has a good strong body and showed some good arm strength from the mound. Equally impressive was the way he swings the bat. He looks very much the part of a power player, either as a pitcher or an outfielder. |
| 9. Eric Goen (02) |
5'11/190 |
C |
Casper, WY |
| Goen is a good receiver who gives the impression that he really knows the game well. He does everything fairly well and his bat is a big tool. The ball jumps off the wood for him. He really stroked some hard line drives at the Indoor event. |
| Top 10 - Underclassmen |
| 1. Chad Billingsly (03) |
6'2/200 |
RHP |
Defiance, OH |
| Billingsly is a good athlete who has a magical right arm. He threw several pitches in the 90s and we've seen him as high as 95 before. He certainly is one of the top "03" prospects in America. |
| 2. Eric Grabowski (03) |
6'2/180 |
OF |
Spencer, MA |
| Grabowski is one of the top raw athletes in the "03" class. He has plus speed, plus power and plus arm. He needs to make a few minor adjustments at the plate, but there's no doubt about his speed/power capabilities. |
| 3. Josh Blake (03) |
6'4/185 |
LHP |
Overland Park, KS |
| Blake is a tall lanky lefty with a quick arm. He's been on our charts for quite sometime and for good reason. He already possesses upper 80s velocity and has an outstanding breaking ball. Blake a top "03" has great bloodlines and could be the latest addition for the Blake family in pro ball. |
| 4. Sean Radke (03) |
6'5/195 |
RHP |
Lockport, IL |
| Radke is someone who will be followed closely over the next year. This kid has a chance to be a big league pitcher someday. He showed us good mechanics, smooth arm action and upper 80s velocity. Add the fact he has a major league pitchers body that projects to get bigger and stronger. He is flying up the national charts. |
| 5. Jerod Estey (03) |
6'2/190 |
1B |
Craig, CO |
| Estey is a good athlete with a big league body. He throws pretty good, but his future will be determined by his bat. He has a nice left-handed swing and it looks like he has outstanding power potential. |
| 6. Drew Bignall (04) |
6'0/185 |
RHP |
Wayzata, MN |
| Bignall is a very interesting "04" who should continue to improve over the next year ormore. He throws very well, but we like his bat a lot. The ball really jumps off his bat and with wood. In fact he has a chance to become a good prospect as both a pitcher or a position player. |
| 7. Lance Bailey (03) |
5'10/140 |
INF |
Akron, IN |
| Bailey pitched and hit at the indoor, but he is a natural infielder. He looks like he is a real good one. He can swing the bat and he handled the wood fairly well. It looks like he will be a good infielder to keep an eye on. |
| 8. Danny Bales (04) |
6'2/210 |
LHP |
Cedar Rapids, IA |
| Watch out for Bales! We have known him for quite awhile and he has always been an outstanding pitcher. Now he is fast becoming a legitimate prospect for the "04" class. He's a lefty with a very quick arm and a upper 80s fastball that touched 89 at the Indoors. |
| 9. Josh Bidzinski (03) |
5'11/180 |
C |
Rockford, IL |
| Bidzinski is a good looking "03" catcher. He receives and throws very well. His bat has big time potential and he looks like he loves the game. Keep an eye on this kid. |
| 10. Marc Lewis (03) |
6'1/175 |
LHP |
Plainfield, IL |
| Lewis is a very interesting lefty with a nice clean delivery and fluid arm action. He is around mid 80s now and only an "03". Look for him to be a lefty in big demand by colleges next year. |
| 11. Griffin Baum (03) |
5'8/165 |
C |
Burr Ridge, IL |
| Baum is a smaller "03" catcher, but he looks very strong. He's a good receiver who handled some of the best pitchers at the event. We think he will hit and with some power at the next level. |
